Night time movie time. I skinned 16 lynx out there. We all had a fun relaxing time and the kids learned a little more.

Great to see the kids out and about!
Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

My familiar view. April to me means skin as many as you can each day so you can have time to hunt later on. I just have to hook up my ps4 and I’ll be watching Netflix while I skin. Nice big Tom in the picture is first up today. It’s the extra pale monster from a picture last month. 28 pounds. The year I weighed a bunch for a tech report seen the heaviest at 34 pounds. He was shot though so he was at full weight. Good thing I enjoy skinning fur or April would be a big chore.

Five to do today then skin feet and flesh a wolverine if I have time. Little update on Morgan’s luck, she picked up a hip rubbed red fox that the crows found just ahead of us when we pulled out the short line I run with my kids. I had seen the fox all winter on a grassy lake I walk to never thinking my daughter would catch it. Hip rubbed and crow pecked but darnit if it’s not going to be a prized wallhanger in my fur shack. I’m going to let her set more next year and start her earlier in the season too. She’s been out trapping since she was one year old. I’m sure all trapping dads know the feeling. Bobby is not far behind and next season will be a big learning year for him.

I enjoy sharing my adventures. I just did a lynx last night for taxidermy. Complete without making a single hole, cut or tear. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

I’ve got lynx in all stages right now. The taxi skinned lynx is leaning against the door. Pic of the skinned out feet.

Nice job on the foot. You can dry them fur out(lynx only not wolf) when you clean them like that by stuffing the foot full of saw dust or cob grit.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

My favourite animal to skin. Can’t ask for better weather or scenery while you work. I helped my cousin Freddy find this bear on Saturday.

I made a trip out to the camps last night. Hauled a few things to geese camp then continued on to the trapping camp to pick up mattresses etc for geese camp. I was seeing some bear tracks here and there but it was the ones closest to my cabin that got my full attention. Not huge or anything but they were investigating every old set and trail as they got closer to my house. I rounded the last trail to my home away from home and could already see a few things scattered in the front yard. I pulled my gun and put one in the chamber. As I pulled into the yard I seen two things. The bottom wire of the bear fence was broken but the doors and windows were intact. I didn’t even slowdown as I passed the cabin and hit the lake where I immediately spotted a bear at the far end. I tried to cut it off before it hit the trees but really had no chance otherwise I might’ve shot the young male as I figure he’s the one getting a little bolder around my trapline these past two years. I quickly grabbed what I needed from the cabin and ran it downriver before heading to town. I stopped for coffee at a friends camp on the way out and they had seen a couple geese earlier in the day. I messaged a different buddy and he also seen a few further up the Mackenzie river while hauling gravel. Glad to say the last 4 lynx are thawed and ready to skin. I seen another set of tracks last night that I will go and look for when I get my next chance. I left him 15 lynx carcasses to keep him close. Spring is the best. Shhhhhhh! Don’t tell September I said that.
