Which would you rather aspire to be if you could, a higher roller that puts up big numbers or the wolfer that can catch the last one. I know some guys out there probably can do both. Just a thought I was pondering the other day. At this point in my trapping experience if I could I would lean towards the high roller myself. Just a day dream on my part.

Why would you want to catch the last one? You need some left for seed.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Easy, high roller. Big barn pic. I’ll stand in front with my arms crossed tuff man style.

High roller needs high numbers , hard work, hard work, lots of permission.
And repeat,,,, and take care of you for part of the year.
Able to catch the last one will take care of you year around.

Last one. I hate those SOBs. Don't want them, don't need them, don't see a need for them.
But that's just me, I like fox.

What I meant is to have the skill to catch the smart ones.

I’m pretty sure I can and have caught the last one quite a few times in my country. I would really like to see if I could do it on real coyotes that are killing livestock.

I'd choose big numbers, but like Red said....lots and lots of work. I did that on foxes here when I was young and tough. Now there are no foxes left here because of coyotes moving in, and I'm too old and weak to work hard for big numbers of coyotes. frown

When you can catch any and all at will, you can put up numbers if you have the drive and physical ability.(and have access to good furbearer populations)

This some it up .I rather catch the last one. Because of the farms I trap they want them all out and at times you have new ones move in for the next season .

I don't think anyone can catch/ shoot the last one.
I'd rather catch/ shoot 100 young ones that stress over getting 10 old ones.
It IS rewarding though to get an old veteran.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

NOBODY has ever caught the last one. Just a cliche' claim by people that sell stuff. Claiming it's so good you can catch the last one. Wipe a bunch out in a pocket, valley, range or ranch, they will yip-yowl and find the void and fill it back in in short order.

Clean traps,tight lines,straight shooting

Rather just steam roll and catch big numbers to me that's alot more fun then stressing and worrying about getting the last one which imo is impossible to do

like making every set(traps/snares) for that last/cagey coyote. You’ll catch all the dumb ones, and the wise ones(hopefully).

Being sloppy, targeting the easy ones is a slippery slope.

For the big numbers the trick becomes “time/area management”.

With $100 coyotes I work for the numbers...in a depredation situation I work for the last one. So the answer is aspire to do BOTH
