Always used 7X7 3/32 for beaver most don't care what you use they are not shy unless educated! That is what I have always used with the large washer locks. Works well, stands up to the beaver abuse, is easy to get as well as getting locks and swivels for. Easier to work with than 1 x 19 cable. Can not use smaller than 5/64 in my state so that is what I use and sell.

I use 3/32. I have had beaver really twist 3/32 cable up anything lighter I probably wouldn't have a beaver waiting. That is with quality barrel in line swivels too. Rally snares. These are the best snares I have ever used --by far!!
I am talking open water.

Started of with Gregerson snares in the early 80's, they were 3/32 so still using that size cable, why fix what isn't broken?
I will say if saving the pelts the 5/64 with a relaxed lock is better on the fur/hide.
I don't bother with swivels, they are wrapped up around so much junk a swivel on the end is out of operation anyway, just more stuff to worry with spending money on.
Not my circus, not my clowns.

I’ve had 3/32 7X7 twisted in two. I have yet to have one twist out of 5/64 1X19. Of course I used 3/32 for 25 or 30 years and have only been using 5/64 for about the last 15. I’ve snared hundreds with both. Get some of both and use whatever works for you and what you have confidence in. Rally Hess makes good snares and handles quality supplies to make your own. Good post. I haven't personally had any escape 7x7 3/32 yet so I'm not planning on changing, however trying more than one to see what works best for you in any particular situation is a good idea in almost every situation, well except marriage. lol
