The red letters are the weakest of your buy. I have a full set that I purchased 30 plus years ago and I feel it was a poor investment compared to many other guns I've collected.

Donnersurvivor, no cracks that I can find. It is a common problem like you stated. These were in a collection/estate so I dont think many were shot much. There were alot of model 12's and remington model 31 pumps that showed some wear. Nice. When you pick up a old Belgium A5 you can feel the pride that went into making it, when you shoulder a A5 you can feel the time spent researching stock design and over all feel, its not computer generated, its so much better than that. The love coming off a old A5 reminds me of coming in from a cold winter day and having my mom put a cup of hot chocolate in front of me. Truly wonderful firearms.

A5's out here aren't worth spit. Field grade without damage go for 4-5 tops, but a lot are 2-3. Mags fetch a couple hundred more. Book on them is artificially inflated. Most of the ones people want to sell are polychoked turds with refinishing done by a drunk monkey, but they're convinced that it's the best thing ever. The actual Belgium ones are not the run of the mill A5, they truly stand out, not in performance but every part you can imagine is numbered and stamped and of great quality. I agree, regular beat up A5s are 200-500 dollar guns but the pristine Belgium's do bring a good bit of a premium here.

I like those old Belgian A5's. Made before WWII. The safety is on the front trigger guard. Works like the safety on a garand. I don't know what a collector would pay but I bet a lot more than 500. If a fore end cracks a good gunsmith can repair and reinforce them. brownells also sells replacements.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
