Do you guys use the same kind of bait and trapping techniques for shrews as you do mice?

Do shrews chew like mice do?

Thanks

I use the same bait on rats, mice, voles, chipmunk, red, gray and flying squirrel as I do for shrew. No black magic or tricks when it comes to setting up rodent traps. The whole lab coat and chemistry set isn't necessary to make good attractants that appeal to critters. Provide variety and they will come running if they are there to begin with.

Peanut butter will work just fine.

Shrews this time of the year I would use scrap meat. I catch a lot of them in weasel boxes. Always having weasels destroyed by them little varmints.

They are carnivores, same order as moles.

PB is high in protein. I assume this is why they go after it. Other reasons might be the smell of blood on used traps, or even trap placement.

I've never had an issue trapping them with pb.

Only thing that matters on these jobs are that they get done. Bait, traps all preference. I find when you start to complicate things along with second guessing yourself on bait, trap placement, fresh, rotten, tainted, you lose time and money.

Meal worms work well in Sherman traps. Wouldn't think that shrews do much damage.

it's the salt in the bacon fat that is the attractant, mix all three and your off to the races......oh ! horses need oats. So do the mice, rolled oats absorb the bacon fat and peanut butter quite well.
A shrew needs about 3 meal worms per hour for maintence.

The Sherman's are very expensive but they work great. For chipmunks as well. I use them for research trapping of small mammals . Never thought about the bacon fat but I bet that does work well.
