The first thread ran off track into modern politics. Let's see if we can stick to the original Bible story. Post away.

I’d solidly put that in the “good problem “ category.

Sounds like he was truly sorry in his heart for what he did.

Perhaps he was forgiven for betraying Christ but had to answer for the one thing he ask forgiveness for, self murder.

Solomon had eunuchs to deal with them. He just picked a few out to play with every night. When he was ready to go to sleep he had them sing "it's good to be the king".

Instead of asking why did Judas do it, maybe we should ask ourselves...How do I make sure I do not become a Judas?

Just a thought

That was my point in asking "the why".

Why did Christ refuse to let Satan enter Peter?

Peter tried to split a guys head with a sword. So he obviously wasn't on the same page as Christ.

Someone touched in the other thread , that the Jews were traditionally expecting the Messiah King to resue them at Passover from the Romans. Like Moses did with all of Israel lin Egypt on Passover. (The Romans knew this, that's why Pontious Pilate was there)

He had just days earlier brought Lazerus back from the dead. So I don't think Judas doubted who Christ was

I think Judas viewed Christ in that same way. And if he was a member of the Sicarii, as his surname Iscariot seems to insinuate, he would definitely believe a violent overthrow of the Romans would be in order.

Though he had been in the very presence of Christ all that time, he really didn't know what Christ was all about.

I think that is one danger we all need to fear, in becoming a Judas Iscariot.

EDIT: So like I said in the other thread, I think he was try to force Christ's hand. And things didn't go at all like he imagined.

Some folk have more respect for the U.S. flag hanging from a pole than what Christ did hanging from the cross. Both deserve our respect and service, without the cross there'd be no flag.

Just think it through, no Judas= no Christianity. He played the part assigned him by the Creator. The better question is having done God's work why did he commit suicide, or did he commit suicide?

That's a good question.

Christ had not been crucified yet so there was no Holy Spirit to convict his heart. Because of this his accountability was held to the old law. This he understood and the consequences for breaking it. Perhaps he couldn't live with himself.

I never thought of it as him viewing in that way. He knew he was deserving of death. To him it wasn't suicide, it was justice? He knew he wouldn't get it from them, so he carried it out himself?

Thanks guys.

3When Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. 4“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said. “What is that to us?” they replied. “You bear the responsibility.” 5So Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.…

Just because an infinite God knows the outcome doesn't per-clued free will.. you need to wrap your understanding around that. Yes Christ sacrifice needed to happen but at the time no one knew that.

The God knew. Even the Son knew. You obviously don't believe that God has a Plan. I'm OK with that.
