The proposal is to increase a carry permit from $20 to $400, identification card from $5 to $100 and gun owners permit from $2 to $50. Also, ammo tax will be 10% and firearms tax to be 2.5%. Don't sound that bad. They're letting you keep your guns.

There are no carry permits in NJ. They exist in theory but nobody qualifies. You have to demonstrate "justifiable need" which is a verifiable threat against your life. A few have applied who actually had verifiable threats - one guy had been kidnapped by a motorcycle gang twice! He was denied a permit.
Many of us have non-resident permits from other states but can't carry at home.
We're making plans to get out. There seems to be an mass exodus right now. For sale signs all over the place. Many are stuck here until they sell their home and there are too many homes on the market. Stay far, far away.

There are quite a few states I would never live in. NJ is high up on that list.

We're making plans to get out. There seems to be an mass exodus right now. For sale signs all over the place. Many are stuck here until they sell their home and there are too many homes on the market. Stay far, far away. More people are leaving New Jersey than any other state. The high taxes/high cost of living and constant trampling of constitutional rights are the primary reasons. I’ve been working here since mid February with a local guy and can’t believe the stories he tells me about the oppressive governments; local, city and state. Here in this town there are many houses for sale. There are also many houses the owners just walked away from because they can’t afford the taxes and they were facing foreclosure or were being taken over by the local government. The local government takes control and tries to resell them to some other unsuspecting sucker. They also build apartment complexes. I don’t know what local government is doing involved in that but it ain’t right. Every time I cross the Delaware river from my home state of Pennsylvania I think about the fact that I am entering a socialist state where my rights are sharply curtailed. I carry daily in Pennsylvania. I wouldn’t even think about it here in New Jersey. Something as simple as that could cost you an automatic two years in jail…just for exercising a constitutional right…
Eh...wot?

[quote]gun owners permit from $2 to $50[/quote
Has this ever been tested in federal court...? If the 2nd Amendment allows citizens to have firearms, how can a state require a "permit" to have one? I thought this got thrown out in the USSC in a couple of different cases in the last 15 years (Chicago store owner, the DC case)...?
NJ will probably lose 1 or maybe even 2 electoral votes come re-apportionment after the 2020 census. They can try to replace hard-working, home-owning citizens will illegals but that will only get them so far. Sad to watch one of the original 13 states go down the tubes...

I have lived in NJ my whole life (66 years). This is my last year. Next spring we are selling and moving elsewhere, can't afford to stay here if we are retired. Taxes are high but that is not all. Any and all services, insurance etc. are sky high. Example: I just renewed the insurance on my 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup. Has 180,000 miles on it. In over 50 years of driving I have never had an accident or a claim against my insurance. Cheapest insurance I can get: $1,100 per year. I put in my same info with a Pennsylvania address and it was 1/3 that price. Thing is, I like it here, it is "home". I know my county like the back of my hand. I have more places to hunt, trap and fish then I can ever get to. My family has lived here since 1754. All my kids and grandchildren live close by. My parents, stepmother and father-in-law all live here. Linda and I have said when we sell and move out it will be the saddest day in our lives. Eric

The state of MA is no better for how it is to live there ,you needed a permit to have a gun there at the time,I move from that state in 95 and glad I did for how much worst it got there. I know that NJ is bad but this is getting worst. Also thanks for the heads up on if you drive through the state of NJ.

I looked at the population of New Jersey a bit ago and there are 9+ million people there. Then I did a comparison of square miles and it is was less than 10% the size of Minnesota. Lots of people crammed into a small area means you have to have controls in place to maintain order.
