Good morning Trapperman members! New member, and my first post.
Glad to be here! Does anyone have a recommendation on where to purchase
a plastic toboggan to haul trapping gear on a foot line? 6-7 feet long, I would guess?

I use a heavy ice fishing sled....can't remember the brand off hand. Get a heavy enough one and it is a multi purpose item. I have hooked my All Purpose Boy up to mine on many occasions to pull deer/bear back to the truck.

P.S. Welcome to the group!

Lure of the North sells a plastic (UHMW) toboggan kit to make a traditional style toboggan from new age materials. I don't have one, never seen one in real life, just seen them on-line.

If you can get the plastic locally, I'd buy the plastic and build it myself.
no kit required

Mine is an otter sled.

Uhmw makes a great pulk. Just build it no wider than your snowshoe track.

Dave and Kielyn are good friends of mine. Met them both in university. And their kits are excellent, and a UHMW toboggan is the best pulling sled available. Pulled one for hundreds upon hundreds of miles on snowshoe winter camping.

You will be amazed how easily 250 lbs pulls on one. I always thought that for trapping combining a winter camping toboggan and action packers would be the most ideal setup.

www.lureofthenorth.com.

You can also make one easily out of a 16"x10' UHMW strip. Go to wintertrekking.com to learn more. I have three or ...four maybe? And they are fun to make.

Hello H-B - welcome!. As far as pulks, you can build one pretty easy. Just google homemade pulk and you'll find plenty of ideas. I built one years ago out of one of the heavy duty orange toboggan and it worked fine. Still have it. It got limited use on the trapline though, other than hauling the kids around a couple times. Wife still uses it for skiing and hauling groceries up/down driveway when her minivan gets snowed in.

I've since gone to an otter sled and rope which is way simpler. As noted above, anything wider than your tracks will be a real PITA to deal with. There's really no way to bust a track in that the sled will ride well in. I use the otter sled for hauling bait all winter and it rides on it's side half the time. Clunky, but it works. There's nothing that will do real good on sidehills or sidehill trails either, regardless of skegs. You'll spend a lot of time dragging the sled back onto the trail. If you're in flat ground you must be in a different part of Idaho than I've ever seen!

Whatever you use, make sure to devise some sort of lashing system with bungees or a net so your stuff stays put when it tips on it's side. Good luck.

Everyone, thanks for the help. A lot of work to do and gear to get
squared away for next season. Much appreciated.

Two years ago one of my lines flooded bad enough in the spring that the snow machine was useless. Could go around, but only on foot. Ended up pulling the line by toboggan. Six ish miles, and ended with eight or so beaver and a whack of traps and stuff. A couple picsnof the toboggan. Toboggan was well over 300 lbs by the end.
