Went fishing today at the ranch I caught a few walleye and sauger. I also caught a huge white bass and decided to keep it and see what they taste like. I have always thrown them back. So are they okay to eat? When I searched it they say they are very good to eat, so what do you say? Lol

I would say white bass are good to eat. White bass are not as good to eat as perch, crappie, bluegill or walleye, the ways I have prepared them. There might be a better way to cook them. Before they changed the way the docks and lights were laid out, I could catch a full cooler load of white bass, in a few hours in early May, at a local lake, right after dark.

Trim the red meat off the lateral line, then great stuff. Marty >> is that because they will taste less fishy or not healthy to eat the red meat??

Snowy, yea what others said "cut the red meat off" and cut the lateral bones out. The white bass from Lake Erie have a lot of oil in them (greasy). We broil, grill, poach or smoke them. Season with salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Fresh squeezed lemon after cooked.

From cold water they are very good. Also good smoked. How do you keep the bones from poking holes in the papers? Just kidding!

Eat the walleye first. The silver bass are a bit stronger/ fisher than a walleye or perch, more like a largemouth bass. But they're very tasty! Dennis
