Snakes are spooky. I was spooked once, had to walk back 50 yds to kill that thing.
Those look big too!

Using the high ground as your vantage point I see. Good tactics Paul! Choot-em! Choot-em! Didn't I see you on an episode of Swamp People? Donna was out with me on the line in east Texas last week for a day and she loves to look for sheds and such... and as I was putting the bead on a darn raccoon who didn't look at all like the coyote I was after, I hear SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE!!!! coming from 30 paces to my left. My lovely wife was in a frozen position, peering down onto the ground. So I quietly walked over towards her and peering in front of her I saw the largest copperhead I've ever seen. Was a beauty. The Mrs. hates snakes so the copperhead is now in the tanning solution. Oh and Donna remained on the buggie for the remainder of the day . She did spot sheds as we drove along but I was the one who had to get 'em. I suggested she wear boots!! But I'm a man, what do I know. Darn snakes.

I would have backed off and called in an air strike. Wonder how many beaver get bitten or if they know to stay away. Have you ever caught a beaver with signs of a venomous snake bite?

Oddly they both get along with one another. I was waiting one evening for a beaver to come repair a dam so I could shoot him, a big cottonmouth came swimming by and parked his butt right beside the hole in the dam and curled up. Along came mr. beaver to repair the hole and as he was shoving and pushing mud and leave's in the hole he was also shoving that curled up cottonmouth around. I waited to see the cottonmouth light him up as his nose was only 2 inch's in front of the snake but that snake never made any attempt to bite that beaver!
And EVERY beaver lodge you find down here is covered in cottonmouths, they'll slide down into them during the heat of the day, them and beaver seem to live fine together!
YES I shot that stupid beaver after it never got snake bit, lol.

I am opposed to killing most venomous snakes, however If I had to trap in those southern swamps I would kill every cottonmouth that I came across. Once in awhile I come across a timber rattler and they want to get away from me, and that's OK with me..God Bless you Paul, you just would not find me wading through those southern swamps. Cottonmouths, big spiders, and gators are not for me. What's really fun is crawing up inside a culvert in late April or May to unclog a dam inside the culvert and run into old man No-shoulders. The bigguns seem like they usually try to get away. I guess they didn't get to be a biggun by fighting a grown man that has a .22 in one hand and a tater rake in the other. Them little-uns on the other hand seem to want to play bite-da-man.
