There are many cases of Lyme disease every year in France and elsewhere in Europe. The Germans are way ahead of most other countries in treatment and diagnosis. The French sort of looked the other way for years and now they are paying for it.
My wife has a cousin who was finally diagnosed after 8 years of symptoms that nobody caught.
Odd that this article makes it sound like a new discovery in Germany.

My wife has had Lyme disease twice (Not lymes or Lyme's) so I'm pretty familiar with it. Both times we caught it early, but it still has significant consequences. I know several people who have died from it because they didn't catch it early. Nothing to mess with. If you spend much time in the woods in the spring and start to feel sick in any way, better get checked. They are finally getting better at diagnosing it. I thought that once you contracted Lyme that you had it forever....its in your bloodstream. You take antibiotics to keep it down, but it will always be there. Am I mistaken? Didnt think it was possible to "catch" twice.

Some people cant get rid of it but most do if they find the right doctor. I have a friend that had symptoms for 8 years before they diagnosed Lymes then it took him 10 years to get it cured he's been free of it for several years now he's a logger and when he goes to the woods he wears a long sleeve shirt with the Cuffs taped the cuffs on his pants are taped he's got Permethrin all over his clothes and he says that it is better to be bit by Copperhead than a tick

I had it when I was 12, never found and ticks or had any bite marks. I had cut my hand really bad gutting a deer, got sick a few weeks later and spent several months sick before I was tested for lyme. I had it a second time when I was in my late twenties. I was bit on the leg. About two weeks later I could barely walk. Both times I took doxycycline for about a month.
