I do several demos a year for youth groups. There are almost as many parents or grandparents as kids at some. Tanned fur is always an eyeopener for many and really gets the kids and adults asking questions. It's a good way to get involvement from those in the groups. Also the kids ask a lot of questions on the traps. The bigger traps get more questions usually. I am thinking about buying a replica bear trap ….. like the Duke #15 or #16. Possibly one of the Jim Rivers … Denali #15 or the AFT #6. I bet these traps would get a lot of attention and kids asking questions. The trap would hang on a wall in my cabin except when I have it at demos. Any comments on the trap to buy. Anybody have one of the mentioned traps? Pictures are from latest demo. [Linked Image]

Footsnares are used nowadays as they are more Humane than the older methods.
If you want to educate the public about trapping you can show the old outdated methods but be sure to show and explain the modern ways trapping is carried out today.

I own, and have caught bear in a Duke #15. So has My All Purpose Boy. They are conversation pieces, that is a fact.

The Jim River traps are a better reproduction. More authentic pan stamping, etc. I bit more expensive than a Duke but better for group presentations.

As far as Boco's comment - ..............

Please site a legitimate source for your statement. They maybe safer for the trapper, but I believe they have the potential to be less humane to the bear.

Footsnares are used by biologists for trapping grizzly bears for tagging and study. We use cages for relocating nuisance bears. Both have passed the aihts standards and the traps did not. That is why many jurisdictions allow the use of the footsnares but not foothold traps for bear.

Echte Zähne. Echte Tierfalle. Jemand hat die Tierfalle durch Hitze geschwächt. Ist jedenfalls meine Vermutung

no! the duke 16 was new from the dealer. you could tighten them by hand. with my jim river it's impossible. you need a strong clamp.
