I have no reason to keep it or use it. It is tempting to give it to you but I will TRY to resist!

Don't know about the maker but I'd say it's a keeper. I'd use it!

Some of the old Granger fly rods go for pretty good money. By looking at your pictures I am guessing that someone converted it to a spinning rod sometime in its lifetime. The eyelets appear to be from a fly rod. Send it to me and I will arrange for a friend in Nigeria to deposit $10,000 in your bank account if you pm me your account numbers, etc. Honest.
Moosetrot Deal! If it was converted wouldn’t the name on the butt be gone or the 2 piece connection be in the wrong spot?
I have nothing clever to put here.

I agree, I have a couple of bamboo fly rods and the eyelets are the same. They are not that manufacturer however, maybe they used the same eyelets for both types of rods?

Didn't notice the name on the butt. I stand corrected! You may want to do some serious research on that rod before getting rid of it. Might be a custom job.
I called Prince Ngobo and told him to reverse the transaction.

Cool. I would have just spent it on stupid stuff. I will put it on CL and see what happens.

Well, I just found a Carl Ogg from Granger, Minnesota in the 1940 census. I had done some research on the fly rods made by Granger and things just were not matching up while looking at the pictures and descriptions. My current guess is that the rod was owned by Carl Ogg from Granger, Minn., who put his name and location on it, and it will be very tough to figure out who the original maker was.
That looks like a VERY early spinning reel and it may have some value itself.
Prince Ngobo is not pleased with this chain of events but it is still a "cool old bamboo spinning rod".

My dad had a bamboo spinning rod when I was a kid looked a lot like yours except the handle was longer then yours appears to be, don’t know what happened to it after he died most likly ma got rid of it at sometime or gave it to one of my uncles or cousins
His I believe was made sometime in the 40/50s

I've seen a few like that over the years. Some came with 2 butt sections, one spinning and one fly. Neither would have any eyes before the joint.

That is a fine old rod and reel. I remember my Uncle had a bamboo rod that had both spinning and fly rod handle sections.
I've got an old Montgomery Ward bamboo fly rod.
