I asked him if he would mind if I posted up his contact info along the cover photo on T- Man to help get the word out that he is still alive and well out New Mexico way.

I've read many books on coyote trapping, and Mr. Lucero’s “MASTER WOLFER” is my favorite by far.

It is on record that Mr. Lucero caught close to 1300 coyotes with footholds in a 12 month period on the Mescalero Indian Reservation.

Mr Lucero's description of a coyote's "Texas Two Step" behavior at a dirt hole and his way of using it to the trappers advantage makes this book worth every penny.

I am a poor excuse for a trapper, but even I can get a coyote to step dead center on a trap pan by using his dirt hole set. I am not very good at keeping sets working in freeze/thaw conditions, so frozen footprints dead center on the pan give absolute proof his unique dirt hole method works.

And you can take that to the bank.

Great book. Great information that is not common knowledge.

"Master Wolfer" and "Snarelines Across The West" are to great books that helped me become a competent coyote trapper and snareman.

He mentions my great uncle Bob Webster in the book. I agree that it is a great book. I guess my two collector copies just depreciated a little. Does anyone know if this is a new printing or new old stock?

I believe Master Wolfer is the only book available for now. He is in the process of trying to get his snare book reprinted.

Bought my copy. Number of years ago, spoke with the author on the day I ordered. He was making arrows for hunting. Rate it up thee with any coyote “how to” book ever written.

I got mine a few days ago. I like it. Straight to the point like Mel Hershbergers cat book , Keith Gregerson’s snare book and JC Conner’s Big Three. You can say more with fewer words if you know what works best.

I purchased Andy’s Western Coyote Trapping dvd and In my opinion one of the best dvd’s on the subject. Eastern coyote trappers can even benefit from it. I know this has nothing to do with the original intent of this discussion but I hope it grabs Andy’s attention. I like to see him make more coyote dvd’s in the future.

I ordered my signed copy today. I love to learn from these old wolfers. These are the guys that poured the foundation for all that followed. Can't wait to get a chance to read it. We need to appreciate the time we have to share with these people. Learned that lat week when my Dad passed away. Never too old to learn and to show appreciate to those who came before us.

Caught this foggy morning coyote. And it got me thinking about James Lucero book Since I have read it. I have caught about 70 more coyotes. Most all of them using his lures and Post Sets and Flat Sets I dont use many dirt holes. On my coyote contract jobs. Because this has been so bad of a year for ants. BUT did catch 1 or 2 just to try out his dirt hole methods. I am on my way to catching 300 plus coyotes again this year. Im at 261 and have everyday work till Sept 15 th. So thanks to Tejas and James Lucero i fell i will hit 300 plus again this year. Can wait to read James Lucero snare book next

I was able to pick up a copy of Master Wolfer online a couple of months back. I will have to say its a very interesting read, even for an Eastern trapper like myself. Looking forward to trying a few of his sets this year.

I just wanted to say that I spoke with Mr. Lucero last week. What a nice fellow. I ordered both of his books and received them today. I’m really excited to read them. Hoping to learn a lot from his teachings.

I had a nice conversation with James this past weekend and just wanted to let everyone know that he also still sells lures.

His filled In dirt hole Is my go to set. It's just so much more natural then a open hole.

Yes I used his "JL Dirthole" a number of times this last year on my canine line and connected on several with it. I tend to respect guys that have the knowledge that coyotes don't step exactly 9-10" back every time and 2" offset from their backing. Haha.

But James does use his guiding methods to kind of guide them In to that area.

I cant wait for his next book to come out. When I took lesson's from James Lucero last month, he talked about the possibility of another book. He said it would be geared more toward = Hard to catch coyotes. In sheep and cattle country. It will also have his = Night Train set that are in NONE of his book. Few people have seen them . They are deadly on bobcat and coyote. This year I caught 303 coyotes using James Lucero lures and I hope I am not done yet! Working on a trip after thanksgiving for 21 days in West Texas

Master Wolfer & Snarelines Across the West are the only books he has available as of right now.
