For those of you who raise bees, what kind of cover crop do you plant for them? If it every stops raining, I'd like to plant something to help build my soil and benefit my bees. I was thinking of rye and buckwheat. I planted turnips and canola this past fall, they bloomed this spring, but I chopped them down and tilled them in before I got my bees.

Unless you have acres to plant don't expect to make a crop, though every little bit helps.
My main "cover crop" is mustard. I plant a fall garden of brassicas (collards, cabbage, turnip, rutabega, etc.) And whatever left gets mustard. I let it bloom before tilling in. Mustard is also a natural nematicide.

Just plant straight buckwheat. The bees love it. The the honey is dark and minerally tasting kind of like molasses sort of.

Over here white clover works, can get three years out of it if I want.
Annual rye works well, perennial rye is like quack grass here.
Alfalpha is best for deer lure. Too bad I can't spell it.
