I have some rabbit bait...bought it from a place out east, but I haven't tried it yet. I wonder about rabbit lure or urine, like that from WCS. Seems to me rabbits are a favorite food of bobcats and coyotes, but I don't hear of people using rabbit attractant much.

Straight rabbit meat has very little odor to It. Your going to have to taint It or add something to It.

Is it their favorite or the most available? There is a difference. I eat more hamburgers that ribeyes but hamburgers aren't my favorite.

for penned up coyotes rabbit is a preferred food. they will eat the head first. housecat, bobcat, squirrel, possum and coon will be ignored unless left to otherwise go hungry. beaver, muskrat will get ate but not immediately like rabbit. mice are a preferred food and deer meat also. horse meat is a favorite seems like.

if you try rabbit, grind or chunk it up with the hide on. they don't even leave much hair when a rabbit gets ate. birds get held down with one foot and feathers pawed off with the other. don't put feathers in a bait but feathers scattered on the ground are a good attractant.

bobcat meat makes a great bait but only when its prepared properly and other things are added in. coon or possum or squirrel it doesn't seem to matter much what you do it is mediocre at best

Gut removing intestines and stomach. Leave organs in chest cavity and kidneys. Grind or chop up the whole rabbit feet legs and all. Let age couple days preserve. Great bait.

Then a whole rabbit should be used at the set. Because a chunk of rabbit In a bait hole isn't going to cut It as to eye appeal or scent appeal.

And a caged critter Is going to react to what It's fed differently then a free roaming critter.

I wonder if anyone on here has ever tested rabbit, beaver, muskrat, bobcat, deer, fish and horse side by side to really see what is preferred.

Caged animals aren't in their normal environment. So just because a coyote eats up a rabbit when caged doesn't mean that It would prefer rabbit meat when It's not caged.
So If rabbit Is the preferred food for a caged critter do those who keep caged coyotes for urine collection go out and trap rabbits or do they raise rabbits just for feed? Or is there some other go to feed that Is fed to these critters. And If that Is true maybe we should be looking Into what that Is.
I'll still stick to my position that a caged critter will act different then It's free cousin.

I'd probably take rabbit over horse, but have admittedly never tried horse.

Beav-your comment makes sense to me.

I have to agree with danny. Changing someones quote is basically putting words in their mouth.

Has anyone else tried rabbit LURE or URINE? Just curious.

I've buckets full of horse that I've been playing with and testing for a couple months. I'll get a rabbit tomorrow and taint it a little bit and test them both side by side. My money is on the horse. I've got deer and cat also that I'll throw in the test also.

I've found the guts get the most interest in d holes in my area. And it draws a a wide variety of critters. Rabbit gut has a very distinct smell. Big buck mink even showed interst in it. Theres not a meat eater out there that wont eat rabbit.

I heard the same thing about rabbit guts.

But my question as to rabbit being the preferred food for caged coyotes Is this. Was this a test of one rabbit 10 rabbits or a 100 and was It tested on more then one coyote?

Was It a clinical study or just some backs woods conclusion.

Penned red fox love rabbit as well. Whole rabbit is probably the best feed for fox urine.
