Your welcome! I would never send someone where I haven’t personally been. Great guy and as you now know he has no shortage of bears.

OK, what I wanted was a stock pack-in hunt to spot and stalk black bear. I got the stock pack-in part and the black bear hunt part, but had to hunt over bait to kill bears. Weather for spot and stalk is a crap shoot and we were probably a week early this year. The high meadows were greening up but were not lush enough to be drawing the bears to them and the bears were just coming out from their dens. Not to worry, Dan had a back-up plan with a couple of bait sites high up. My hunting buddy Tom killed a 5 1/2 ft cinnamon boar after sitting over the lower of the two baits for 1 hr on day one (Monday). Tom is not accustomed to riding horseback and was quite uncomfortable so after killing a nice bear he was done, even though he had another tag in his pocket. I hunted the upper bait site on Monday but saw nothing, same thing on Tuesday. Wednesday we rode high up looking for bears but found nothing. Thursday I hunted over the lower bait site that worked for Tom and Dan watched the upper bait. Bad choice on my part as Dan saw a nice cinnamon sow and a punkin headed boar at the upper bait but I saw nothing. So on Friday, the last day, I hunted the upper bait and had 2 bears come in. One was the cinnamon sow and the other was a black (not the big punkin headed one), and I shot both about 30 min apart. Even though it was not spot and stalk the hunt was exactly what I wanted. Lots of riding in the high country. great scenery, and a great camp. It really was an exceptional experience. Dan runs a terrific operation that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Thanks Ed for the story. I take it you were at the upper trailhead camp? There are few horseback trails in the lower US as beautiful as the one up that river valley. Worth the price of admission right there. Won’t find another outfitter who will outwork Dan in getting the job done for you. Nice of you to say Corey I hope all has been well for you.
