My son at cranberry hill after our caribou hunt. His first caribou hunt with me and I can tell he loves it all. He’s really just like I was when I was his age. He asked about five times to try crossing the 4” deep creek where we skinned caribou before I finally let him. I warned him about getting wet every time he asked. After we changed him to some dry clothes he was right back at it. Just a little more carefully. I also took my oldest daughter Morgan to geese camp last weekend. We explored on foot, and picked up some gear we left last spring. Lots of nice scenery this time of year

We found the shovel that sunk last spring.

One time I sunk my chisel in Island Lake. This was before Yukon Men so I did not know to make my boys strip down and dive in after it so we can survive the winter.
After Island Lake cut out and drained into the Peel, Samuel went in and found it. Changed the stick and good as new. He still uses it.

I bought grey paint Cloud Berry Hill for my camp? Did not want to scare caribou so I went with grey.

Got this 3 year old bull on the 15th. Seen 2 bulls 2 cows and a calf earlier that evening but after calling to them and only getting two grunts out of the bigger bull they all turned and fled the country for some reason. We had some cold weather early and then close to two weeks of Indian summer so the timing of the rut is off. Seems like some bulls were ahead of others. Different for sure. We had seen tracks between 2 grassy lakes earlier in the afternoon and decided that our best bet was to start for home and hope the bull that made the tracks was still close by. Just before last daylight I spotted paddles in the bush. There ended up being two bulls there. Walking along the trail watching for a chance through the thick brush was fun. The bigger bull gave me a head on shooting chance but he looked too greasy/smelly and mean so I passed. Didn’t see this guy until I spotted it making a break for the thick creek. Luckily there was a clearing and just before it disappeared I swung low and ahead and good old 270 took him cleanly just behind and below the ear at about 150 yards. A good clean shot that Hit with a loud SMACK and dropped him stone dead. Done with moose until the temperature gets to freezing unless someone needs a spotter/shooter/skinner/gutter/cutter/packer/loader/joker/helper who brings his own lunch and smokes.

A few more pictures from moose hunting. My youngest baby Charlotte is two and she’s the happiest little girl to tag along with the big kids now. Uncle Steve enjoying retirement in his Argo. My first trips out in it and man I’ve never seen anything like it for moose hunting. Sure can get into some remote places. Takes moose hunting to a different level for sure. Still love going out boating in the swamps though. Nothing wrong with a bicycle too for the dedicated mooser. I would’ve hauled meat to the truck in one of those pull behind carts for kids if I got a moose with the bike.

The Pot of gold at the bottom of the rainbow might’ve been moose or a pot o’soup instead. Morgan went berry picking with her class and outpicked the adults.

Howdy. Looking forward to the upcoming trapping season. A few pictures to share from recent work and taking the kids out.

Couple more. One of the bigger dolly varden char I’ve ever held. The caribou and moose were both seen during work hours. There’s hundreds of land slumps around like the one in the picture. The one shown is average size.

I really like your posts and pictures especially those of your kids. But I sure hope you figure out how to straighten them out. My neck is getting sore trying to view them. Thanks for the insight on the North and those that live there.

950 minimum when done properly. That’s including the biological samples for the govt.
