I'm thinking of buying silver for the first time, about 100-150 dollars worth. What type should I buy? Coins or ingots etc

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

Head to your local coin shop and buy 1/2 dozen Silver Eagles or $150.00 of 1964 or older junk silver US coins. Dimes or quarters would be good IMO!

Just curious what your motivation is for buying silver ?

I would think that answer would influence what you buy

Figure prices are somewhat down and I'd like to have some to sell of it ever gets over $30 per oz again

I see. If that's the case I would look at SLV rather than the physical silver. Likely cheaper per unit value that way.
