Gonna ask a real stupid question...what size tire? Are y’all using tractor tires, truck tires, or just a regular old car tire?

I just used an old pick up tire. I don't think It makes much difference It's about being visible.

Standard tire. I figured IF they jumped inside the would probably aim for the middle of the circle.

May try it and see if it works on summer coyotes. Just need to figure out where to put it so visibility works to my advantage.

Has anyone set a trail cam on the set ? I would be curious to see what visits the set and how they behave.

First I heard of it was another attempt to make a set where cows are. Lots easier to just catch coyotes on the other side of the fence. Coyotes don't like new stuff. Haul in a tire and most wont come near it for awhile. When they do most wont get inside of it. If you set outside the tire cows step on it. If your going to set outside a clump of grass or whatever is naturally there works for a backing anyway. Anybody hauling tires around don't have much room in their pickup for traps and gear so they are not running many traps anyway. If you want to play around with tires for whatever reason then get after it. I think its another ultimate cat attracter like the traders of the big horn were selling a few years back

You put out the tires and the attached traps about a week before you start trapping. Mark June puts out white 5 gallon buckets as visual attractors.

Place a large burnt chunk of wood In a bare field about 20 feet or so from a critter travel way and see If you don't get some coyotes and fox checking It out. Can't see why a tire wouldn't work the same.

My experience is coyotes are more spooky than curious. With that said there's always a few dum ones. If you have enough dum ones some even start thinking most of them are that way.

I’m not choosy, I’ll take a dumb one any day of the week.

Yeah but why limit yourself to just part of the population. Easier to catch a dum one in a good set than to catch a cautious on in a gimmick set.

I'm going to try It and see what happens.
I just can't see where there Is any difference between a large rock an old stump or a square bale or a burnt chunk of wood or a BFGoodrich laying out In a bare field. The coyote doesn't know It's a tire.

I know the hay set works good for coyotes and fox especially around here. Deep in winter easiest set to make imo. Alot of fun to make too.

that tire set originally called for a tire to be placed in a cow pasture then a coyote set made inside the tire or a tire placed over a set. cows stay out and coyote hops in

I have never set a tire for coyotes .but have made a bunch of sets with a trap in the middle of the tire and jack mack rubed around the inside of the bead and never caught a coyote in one . I f i made that many dirtholes dug into the side of a grass clump baited with jak mac id come up with several .I think most are to nervous to get in the middle of a tire. Some will for sure . I have seen tracks on and around the tires before . A set outside should work . Im fairly certain a scent post close would out perform the tire itself . They make great coon sets but still arnt worth packing over 20' to place . I sure don't think enough of them to pack in my truck

First I heard of it was from Travis Chilton. Maybe he will chime in.

Where a tire realy shines is when you are road trapping coon and the creek banks under the bridge arnt shaped right for most sets if there is a tire there its a ready made set

I have tried the tire set last two years not a real high percentage set but it did catch coyotes and keep the deer out the tires i have been using have been there for a long time tires are only about four or five inches high with the beeds about two inches apart old bias ply i would guess i wad up a ball of grass make a mouse nest and put a mouse base bait on top inside beed not an old coyote set but fun to catch the pups in dumb mule deer infested areas
