I just used an old pick up tire. I don't think It makes much difference It's about being visible.

First I heard of it was another attempt to make a set where cows are. Lots easier to just catch coyotes on the other side of the fence. Coyotes don't like new stuff. Haul in a tire and most wont come near it for awhile. When they do most wont get inside of it. If you set outside the tire cows step on it. If your going to set outside a clump of grass or whatever is naturally there works for a backing anyway. Anybody hauling tires around don't have much room in their pickup for traps and gear so they are not running many traps anyway. If you want to play around with tires for whatever reason then get after it. I think its another ultimate cat attracter like the traders of the big horn were selling a few years back

You put out the tires and the attached traps about a week before you start trapping. Mark June puts out white 5 gallon buckets as visual attractors.
Place a large burnt chunk of wood In a bare field about 20 feet or so from a critter travel way and see If you don't get some coyotes and fox checking It out. Can't see why a tire wouldn't work the same.

I’m not choosy, I’ll take a dumb one any day of the week. Yeah but why limit yourself to just part of the population. Easier to catch a dum one in a good set than to catch a cautious on in a gimmick set.

I'm going to try It and see what happens. I just can't see where there Is any difference between a large rock an old stump or a square bale or a burnt chunk of wood or a BFGoodrich laying out In a bare field. The coyote doesn't know It's a tire.

that tire set originally called for a tire to be placed in a cow pasture then a coyote set made inside the tire or a tire placed over a set. cows stay out and coyote hops in

First I heard of it was from Travis Chilton. Maybe he will chime in.
