My Creatinine count has been progressively increasing in my blood tests I was getting every3 months for a low platelet count. I got a new GP who sent me to a urologist. I had a kidney scan done last week and it was determined I had stage 3 kidney disease. Anybody here familiar with this condition?

My wifes cousin is up to stage 5, she needs a kidney transplant which she's putting off, even though she has a willing donor , her brother, its that or dialysis.
She has had kidney disease for many years and it doesn't get better, I believe a low protein diet slows the progression, but at some point it's a transplant or the dialysis.
From what I understand once you start dialysis, you can no longer get a transplant.

How is your blood pressure ?? Pretty much a direct correlation between elevated blood pressure and kidney damage

Two years ago, my BP was usually around 120s/ 70s. At my last annual physical 8/22/2018 it had elevated to 138/82. Then this spring I had some laser surgery done on one of my eyes. They did a BP and it was elevated to 166/131.

I saw a cardiologist. I was put on BP medications and warfarin. Now, my BP is running in the 120s/ low 80s. My creatinine numbers have been increasing. The last number was 1.44. 1.25 is the high end of the creatinine level.

Well I just looked at my last blood work from 7 days ago. My creatinine is 1.1 but the "normal range" shown is 0.6- 1.3. So I suspect it varies from lab to lab in what they consider 'normal'.

Those BP readings seem to have spiked pretty quickly. But it looks like you have it under control.

Low carb diet really helped get my numbers back in acceptable ranges.

Low carb diet got your BP numbers in acceptable ranges or your creatinine levels?

BP . It helped a lot but I still take 4 meds for BP. But the issue is that elevated bp is really hard on your kidneys. If you can keep that down it might slow things down with your kidneys.

The docs just seemed unable to get my BP to respond. After reading the threads on here from Patrice & Sharon I tried the low carb diet. Really made a difference.

Great book....Protein Power by EADS. Explains how the body responds to carbohydrates and all the lousy things they do. Might check it out in the local library.

I have stage 3 kidney disease. It is the largest ranging of the stages.
My creatinine numbers are fairly high. 1.8, 1.9 are my new normals. I've had it as high as 2.9 twice. They were looking for matches.
I'm kinda on a watch and see program right now. My vitamin D levels are low so they keep adjusting things for that.
I have one normal looking kidney and one that is surrounded by varicose type veins. I had a biopsy a year or so ago to see if my myeloma was affecting them. It wasn't thank God. Kidney biopsy wasn't bad pain wise. The bad part of it was it was a 45 minute procedure, then I had to lie flat on my back for 4 hours before they'd allow me to leave.

I have a tumor on my right kidney. Kidney will be removed Aug 12.

Had stage 1 colon tumor removed in June. Had AFIB in March. What a year.

My blood numbers are good. The kidney tumor is 3.4 cm, which is about an inch.

Hang in there.

I take two meds for my BP, Norvasc (generic Amlodipine Besylate) & Carvedilol. My BP fluctuates a lot.
I have one of those BP machines you buy at a drug store. I find it varies a lot from the doctor's office. I assume the doctor's office is more accurate.

My creatinine numbers two years ago were 1.2. they have been steadily increasing and have risen to 1.4.
Is there anything they can do to reverse kidney disease?

I'm not sure. Mine was caused by an acute kidney injury during a motorcycle wreck, and subsequent care. Or lack thereof.
I also have cirrhosis (NAFLD/NASH) which doesn't help out when I'm on 2 different diuretics which really tax my kidneys.

My cardiologist told me that if they could stabilize my BP at a reasonable level it would stop damaging my kidneys. So he really didn't say they would improve but hopefully not get worse.

Are you diabetic ?

No, not a diabetic.

When it was discovered I had high BP, they did an ECG and found I had an atrial flutter. I underwent an atrial ablation which solved that problem, but I do have AFIB which my cardiologist tells me is the reason for the warfarin.

Do you take a blood thinner besides your BP meds?

Only aspirin.

That book will really make a lot of connections for you. It's fascinating and very easy to read. The authors are both doctors but write for the ordinary guy .
