Probably the best answer I've read, because I can guarantee if you're on a forum asking this question, you're not trapping for a living. You're likely doing it as a hobby and/or to do your part in conservation, so I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Ours opens Nov. 1st here and I believe that is way too soon for southeastern nebraska.
I wait until dec. 1st or as close to that as I can get with my work schedule, weekends, and holidays..
Our stuff is in much better shape in december, and it's well after most of the rifle deer seasons, late into pheasant season, most of the field work is done, and I just have less issues from others around here.

If you start at the opener here, you aren't going to get many prime coon, or fox. With todays fur prices, you might as well throw October coon away. I usually wait until at least the first of November. I don't wait for muskrats but they sure do grade better after thanksgiving.
