330s bird hotel post got me thinking about my old Tonka truck.. My mom always said put your toys away and you will know where they are and have them next time you want to play.. Well that was many years ago and I hadn't thought about my old Tonka Pickup Truck in years..Every so often I'd wonder what ever happened to it couldn't really recall where I had it last..
Two years ago when my brother passed away. My younger brother who was clearing up his estate. Was tearing down the old camper my grand father had built. My dad was using for a shed at the cottage that was now my brothers estate.. My grandfather built the camper on front wheel assembly off a model A . I have no idea when it was built but was before I was born. I did sleep in it many times when I was little. My dad used it as base camp to build the cottage back in early 1960s..That is how it ended up there at cottage as play house tool shed.
So anyway my brother was pulling the camper/shed now trash pile apart clear the property to sell. What does he find.. Mine and couple of my other brothers old toys. Make sense now because I do remember pushing the truck around in the sand pile..Dare I say! next to the rail road track by the cottage..
So I guess at some point I had put my toys away or one of my two younger siblings did. I just didn't know or remember where. Younger brother comes one day ask which ones of these toys were yours?? Well mine is that sweet robins egg blue pick up truck your holding LOL..

Trucks been sitting on top cabinet on my back porch for some time now. Couldn't bring myself to toss it out, didn't really know what to do with it.
Grabbed it down took these pics, maybe just might become my next bird house. Think it's past the point of a full restoration...

I have most of my old toys in one of my barns and garage. When I bought my first house, my parents delivered to me almost every toy I ever had.

Make a camper birdhouse to put in the back of it. Win-win, you get to see the old truck serving a new purpose.

I have an old matchbox story. My parents were having a new home built about 1/2 mile from where we were living. We would go over everynite when my dad got home and they would paint, cleanup etc. I would be playing in the dirt pile next to the foundation. I had a red matchbox firetruck in 1965 that I played with constantly. Apparently we left late or something and I forgot the truck. Well I do not recall if I went back looking for it or not. About 7 or 8 yrs ago my mother was having a new water line put in and the guy digging found my matchbox way down near the base of the foundation. He gave it to her and she showed it to me. I knew right away that I lost it there where he was digging. It had a lot of the paint on it for being in the ground for close to 50 years. A little crushed down but the rubber tires were still on it and you still could read matchbox on the bottom. It now resides on the top of my dresser.A memory of mine.

You keep that, Mark. Someday one of your kids will be glad to have Dad's old toy truck.
