Probably made more on the saved egg/meat production than had they been prime furs.

Had an influx of animals here too getting in to the chicken coop

In 5 days we caught 7 coon, 2 opossum and a skunk in the coop. Hadnít had an issue in the coop for several years until about two weeks weeks ago

On a good note. While fishing yesterday we heard several coyotes around the lake

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Our coop and pen were under siege for almost a year, mostly fox but who knows what else. We kept losing our entire small flock of 6-10 birds.

We finally got tired of buying poults just to feed the local fox and fortified the fence, put hardware cloth a foot up and a foot out on the bottom and covered the 625 square foot pen with heavy-duty netting.

We haven't lost a bird since we finished fortifying three months ago. In a few more months I might actually start getting fresh eggs again...

Eh...wot?

I lost 2 birds in 3 weeks. Took 5 coon and fortified the fence and replaced the fence charger. So far so good.

We had chickens for fifteen years or more. Other than occasional losses to hawks or fox, we never had much trouble up until about a year ago. Heck, we used to free-range them during the day all summer long.

A persistent fox discovered an easy meal-ticket last year and took advantage of it forcing us to upgrade security.

My birds usually start laying around five-months old so, with a little luck, I should be eating fresh, homegrown eggs by end of October.

Dog hunters run the dogs in cornfields in the summer here don't know if they kill a lot of pups
