Educating the public might be a good thing. Hiding an issue can only make things worse.

I don't have a problem with kids learning anything about history. But I'll guarantee this subject will be taught in such a way as to normalize homosexual behavior, castigate a traditional, conservative viewpoint that has, to its shame, had a history of wrongly oppressing homos. They will explain all the great achievements of homosexual individuals and cover the great societies and cultures from history where homosexual behavior was normal and/or highly esteemed. In no way will they explain the reasons why some people consider the activity to be deviant or teach the reasoning behind the opposition to government recognition of homosexual "marriages".
And really, do you thing homosexuality has such a significant part of history that it needs to be studied in school?

Why must race and/or sexual identity be attached to history, unless the actual historical event occurred over these things. An achievement is just that an achievement. It matters not if your black or white, straight or gay. This is a motive/measure that is strictly agenda driven. Much in the same way the constitution is taught to be archaic and only relevant to the time period in which it was wrote. Especially the 2nd amendment of said constitution.

There are more important things in life than learning about gays and lesbians like how to work and feed yourself. It is politics as usual here in Illinois. Our new Governor is a peach....
Teachers now are telling kids they can be anything they want to be. When I was a kid that meant things like president, astronaut, fireman, ect. but now they are teaching it to mean gay or lesbian and making it sound like it is the greatest thing ever to be one of those. I have two nieces who are the most messed up kids you ever saw. Their mother kidnapped them and left my brother. They have died their hair so many times that now they have grey dreadlocks for hair. They wear Harry Potter inspired witches outfits every where they go. They both have tattoos and say a spell over their food before they eat it. They carry magic wands and way them over their food. They have been on anti depressants that are so strong they have to get their liver tested every once in a while to make sure it's not being harmed. Neither one of them speak to me. they look at me like I am going to hurt them and they cower when I walk by. This is almost all because of their liberal mother and the school system here. They are 15 and 19 years old. That's what you are going to have in your state if you let liberals teach your kids they can be anything they want to be because they will make them into what they want them to be so they can be adult wards of the state that can vote for the liberals. What will they take away when they start teaching our kids how to be lesbians and gays?
It's all our new Governor. He was the last straw. One political party now has control of all committees and over 1800 different ''funds'' in our state. It's all about money. It only took about 40 years. Most of the new laws are passed on Sundays- check it out.
I live on a great farm and do all of the things the rest of you do. The taxes and rules are ridiculous. They just right new tax laws and change the rates and rules when they want to. It costs a lot to live here if you live in a town. There are a lot of good people here -Chicago people are completely different mentality than the whole rest of the state. They ruin things for the rest of us.
Just passin through

Good lord, people. Nobody's teaching kids to be gay. They're teaching historical events....Things like the stonewall riots, decriminalization of homosexual acts, legalized gay marriage, etc etc. Nobody's gonna show your kid how to properly lube a butt plug for god sakes.

Yeah, because Academia is doing so well with everything else. There are more important and proper things to teach youngin's. Gun safety, shooting sports, how to get a job, balance a checkbook and on and on. Maybe what needs done is to teach teachers how to teach again.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

History is a basic subject that should be taught in schools, I see nothing wrong with teaching historical events that are still important topics in today's culture.
You could always homeschool or send your kids to private or parochial school if you don't like what the public schools are teaching.

Is Illinois going to have an LGBTQ history month? If as the Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal" why do schools and/or governments insist on divisions based on race and/or sexual orientation? The only reason I can see for such forms of segregation is for political purposes only.

I don't agree with a "black history month" or an "LGBT history month", but I also don't have a problem with teaching LGBT history, or black history. All men are created equal, so it's important to teach that at one point in our history, some people thought some men were not equal based on their skin color or who they had sex with. You can teach history without creating identity politics. You can teach "people used to get thrown in jail if they had sex with the wrong person" without teaching "you should celebrate dudes having sex with dudes". There's a difference.
