It is just getting warmed up at 198,000 miles. I think it has another 302,000 miles to go. You say you can't afford a big repair, so say it is $1,000 for a new transmission. How many months of payments on a new truck is that? Like you said. It'll cost you more to buy a new truck than it will to maintain and repair the one you have.

If I got 100,000 more out it, I be happy, repairs are high, noway well make it 300,000 more, I have put fuel pump in recently, catalitic converter another big repair a cpl yrs ago an already bad, won't replace unless starts missing, other smaller things, but use some oil, if that why cat bad, not good, have replace exhaust manifold an cat built in it, can't bust out inside cat, I don't think possible? A bunch costly repairs would make it not worth it as more come, hopefully not, happen for while, payments on used, really taking chances, that i went new, I have not much in credit card an used have decent job an really not see myself making big paychecks in future, if ur shelling out $900 to $1000 in house an auto payments a month plus other stuff, even if single, u got have pretty good job going to survive for years

Your truck would last longer if you would stop running through all that high water. You worry way to much about things. Take two of these And wash it down with this Hope this helps

IMO the best way to buy a vehicle is buy new. Sit down and decide what you want. Then start looking for a vehicle that meets that. Once you decide on a vehicle start dealer shopping. Don't be afraid to tell them you are shopping other dealers. There is thousands of dollars difference in one to the other. Vehicle salesman are ALL repeat ALL crooked as a dogs hind leg. Once they tell you a price don't let them add stuff. Stick to that number and only agree to adding sales tax. They will come up with all kinds of added fees like dealer prep and who knows what all. You are going to have to just walk out of several dealerships most likely with a salesman following you like a hound on track. Baying like one too.
Once you buy one drive it till there is nothing left for anybody else to bolt parts on to.
Don't skip any routine maintenance. When something breaks don't wait to fix it.
If you figure the real cost per mile of driving when you haul your vehicle to the salvage yard, every dime you spent on fuel insurance parts labor and taxes its the cheapest per mile cost.
You MIGHT beat that per mile cost (a little) by buying slightly used and driving till there is nothing left, but you may have to settle for a vehicle that is not just what you want.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

If you run your trapline as a business, you buy a new one every 5 or so years. Can write them off for 5 years. I usually go 6, however. At 6 years they are still worth plenty (if you're not using them for a commuter and keep the miles fairly low).
A truck is an "expense"...an expense that most don't take into account, but it's your highest expense on your trapline ( initial cost, maintenance, insurance, fuel, tires, etc).
Just another way to look at it. To each his own.

If u got the money for vechile they be after u. If ur talking Finacing, there not so interested. Unless u got all money to pay for vechile. It not worth it

Just to help a little. I expense used equipment too. It don't have to be new to be written off as an expense. Always remember you want to keep expenses low irregardless of the fact you can save some taxes, An expense is still an expense.

it would be hard to get a new or even fairly new truck payment less than 416 dollars a month and a used truck payment less than about 330 dollars a month.
when your looking at more than 210 a month in repairs beyond normal oil changes , brakes and tires to keep going then it is time to get something new.
drive them into the ground unless it is giving you a lot of problems
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
