Not sticky if you prepare them the way I do. Let them soak everything up and leave bag open if they are sticky.

Much easier and cleaner process when you can dip a stick in the jar and smear it on the object, put the cap back on then throw it back into the "trapping bag" and go. With the right agents, the bait will stay "moist" and not dry out and become "stuck" or interfere with moving parts of a trap.

One thing I learned as a kid by raising a few coon is their taste buds are as different as humans. What one likes, doesn't mean the next one will touch it. Use ONE bait and you're shooting yourself in the foot. Have a few on hand come season.

Liquid smoke is great stuff...but potent, and can easily overpower every other smell you have in your bait. Kind of like Skunk essence in a way. Great stuff, but easy does if you want them to smell anything else. If using liquid smoke alone, add glycerin to keep it from evaporating as quickly (it's water based).

As Asa once said, Skunk is the number 1 attractant for most every animal. I agree. People overlook skunk for coon....but what always shows up in our skunky coyote sets?

Ya glycerin expensive. I see liquid smoke is like $10 gallon, was thinking of it but don't want have dogs at pocket sets in water. At it, probly wont work out jello powder. Maybe I just find some shell corn an add to cheap Kat food with small marshmellows mix in an dry jello powder, hopefully enough order from jello powder to interest them on there trail

If you are trapping their trail, why not set a foothold right in the trail and catch them? Not hoping they like your bait concoction. Might have to deal with a skunk or possum once in a while. You make coon trapping way too difficult.

I don't trail set with footholds. Connibears I do, dp set is quick, dog proof, can sometimes set closer bldgs. Set where no cover from grass or brush that would set connibear in. Set dp in short grass. Bare ground or under bridges on bank where lot easier to set dp than pocket in water

And if they are not interested, they keep walking by your dog proofs. Hard to walk their trail with a trap planted in their way. If there is a trail in short grass I will set it all day long. You can set foothold just as close as a dogproof.
