Does anyone know where I can get replacement springs for the guard bar for a few #1 Duke stoploss traps? I dont need the main long spring, but the spring that powers the stop loss bar. Not sure what the correct name for it is, these are my first stoploss traps. I picked them up at WTA for $3 each, now I see why they were cheap. That spring is super weak, that bar will only close halfway without a nudge.

Thanks!

Maybe look up Victor, B&L or some other American company that Duke copied from would be my guess. Good luck tiguy.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

The only replacement parts for stoploss traps on either F&T or MTP was for Bridger traps. From the menu of options, I take it the "guard" part that flips over and differentiates the stoploss from a regular long spring is called the bale. Does that sound right?

Does anyone know of the spring and pin from a Bridger stoploss will fit a Duke?

Thanks for the help Catch22.

Honestly tiguy idk for sure but think Dukes #1 stoploss was copied from Victor and don't think they will match up to Bridger. I wish I could be of more help but really think you should look in to Victor parts. Hopefully someone with more knowledge then me will chime in.

Thanks again Catch22. I was able to find replacement spring and pin for a victor stoploss on the Sterling Fur website.

Hopefully someone can corroborate your theory that the Duke is a copy of the Victor. There are a couple different bale shapes on the 3 traps I have, so they must be from different years.

If you can find anything that will work it's gonna be from Sterling Fur. I should have mentioned that cause Keith is definitely in the know and will hook you up if you speak with him. Hope you found what you need!

Duke stoploss are a copy of Blake and Lamb. The Duke traps use a different guard spring, the others won't interchange unless you modify the trap somewhat.

I wouldn't bother with it,its not worth it.I bought 2 dozen years ago that I still have, never used. When I first bought them I took them out of the box and hung them up in my shed.A couple years later I took them out and not one of them would set,the little bit of surface rust they accumulated prevented every one of them from working.I've used B+L and Victor stoplosses all my life when 'rat trapping,I never saw anything like these.

The #1 Duke Stoploss traps that are shown in the 3 or so catalogs I viewed show the Duke stoploss with the guard spring near the long spring or the opposite of the Victor and others and is longer as well, so their springs won't work on the Dukes. I found my Victor stoploss items from Cumberlands and Sterllings and others have them. You may be best off to contact Duke directly and see how they may help you. I have a couple dozen guards, springs, pins and pans on hand for my several dozen stoploss.

I’ve got a lot of guard trap parts from Cumberland, they had stuff not in their catalog but put away back in storage, I think they bought a lot of Blake and Lamb parts back in the day when they closed, call them!

Thanks for the advice Bryce and 4zebra61. I sent an email to Cumberland and will contact Duke next.

Here is a photo of the traps. I see now I must have a couple different models, as the guard on one is a different shape, and the dog is on the other side. Maybe a different trap with a Duke pan?

I replaced my duke (and Victor) stop loss springs with the entire rest of the trap. Replaced them with Duke 1.5s. Definitely one of the best moves I've made in trapping. Quit fighting those dumb things...far better (higher percentage catching) equipment on the market now...and for less $.

tlguy- The bottom 2 are old style Dukes, the top is a newer stoploss. Just out of curiosity spray the springs with wd-40 and work them back and forth, as long as they are not broken.
I broke a bail on one of my Dukes and when I called Bill Duke he said he didn't have parts but rather sent a whole new trap!!!!

95% of my water traps that aren't colony or body grip traps are Duke 1.5cs traps. I even passed these traps up once the day before because I like the idea of having consistency across the line, and I like the 1.5cs for its weight and holding power. I drowned a decent male otter held by 2 toes last year with one. But I thought I would diversify and give these a shot.

One of the reason I got rid of my Northwood #1 stoploss and never bought the Dukes is I did not enjoy having that guard spring slamming on my thumbs when I was trying to get them set. Especially when working in a pushup when you can't see a thing. Round pan Victors have their issues too but I have adjusted to those over time.

What's your stoploss of choice, Bryce? I may run these few dukes as is and buy some different ones to give them a fair shot.

I appreciated your rat demo on Friday and learned a few things.
