I saved all my beaver castor shells for bear hunting to grind up and mix with something like maybe vasoline?? to help waterproof it and allow it to smear really well.
my question is should i use vasoline or is there something better out there to mix with it to achieve this

thanks in advance

is it time to go fish, or hunt, or trap something yet....

I have done basically just that and used odorless hand and body lotion . In thought it was a winner using it I didn't notice a lot of difference .

I mix skunk quill in petroleum jelly....heat it up on the stove in hot water...until it turns to liquid ...then its a good idea to take it outside to add the stank. Let cool back to jelly and spread. Thats my Fisher set up

If your going to use castor use it as is. It's fine that way.

For about 30 years I have been taking 2 or 3 castors. Cutting them up into about half inch pieces. The put them into a 1.75 liter of vodka. You'll need to remove a little of the vodka. It's up to you what you do with it.
I do this in the spring. Maybe 2 or 3 times throughout the summer shake it up a little. The castors never actually break down completely but will make all the vodka smell like fresh castor juice. It doesn't freeze and will stay fresh smelling. Just squirt it were you need it. The castors from 10 beavers will make gallons of this. You can ad vodka as you use it to the mix a few times before the castor looses enough odor and need to be replaced. This fall I screwed a spray nozzle into the bottle and used it around our bear bait. The reaction was very positive, Add a little liquid smoke for bears. Doesn't freeze or become rancid,

With the price of castor sell the shells and buy some castor lure and salmon oil. Cheap and easy, or just shoot the little bears you got coming in
