My wife and I are considering a move to Idaho sometime in the next few years to get away from the frozen prairie. How’s the trapping opportunities there? Room for one more? Plenty of coyotes to kill? Other species?

Hey Bob - Idaho is pretty diverse. Lots of public ground, lots of opportunity for just about every species of furbearer, coyotes and wolves. Like most western states you'll probably need to cover a lot of ground. You looking anywhere in particular?

We hadnt settled on a particular area yet but I think we want to be central or southern Idaho, possibly near Oregon. We’ve looked around Idaho falls, Pocatello, south of Boise. I want to be close to mountains and some decent fishing, public land, etc

Idaho Falls is fairly close to mountains and decent fishing. I would describe coyote population as marginal at the present time. Depending on how much relief you want from ice and snow you may want to choose a lower elevation than Idaho Falls' 4740Ft.

Well as far as climate goes I’m just sick of winters that regularly get -30 to -70 wind chills. Not a big fan of snow either

In case you don't know, Idaho coyote are worth considerably less than NE Montana coyote.

I know that very well lol but I’m willing to trade frozen wasteland for less fur money and mountains

Nevada is an option too. I grew up in lovelock, and my parents still live in winnemucca. Plus I miss trapping kit fox lol those little buggers are fun

Now Bob what ever do you mean no mtns in eastern Montana, I remember snow drifts in places that were close to 25' tall in some of the cuts along the road to Circle that seemed like mtns when the snowplow finally got threw them.
