Per Yahoo news: Colt firearms has announced they will stop making the AR-15 for the civilian market.

Say it an't so!

This only affects women, since men don't shoot anything smaller than 6.5mm.

I bought a colt used over ten years ago, guy ran two mags through it and decided he didn’t want it anymore. Always wanted a Colt anything, guess it’ll be a relic now. It’s a shame. Very reliable piece.

I'm sure that Colt's decision had nothing to do with the current climate we're in lol.

i'm sure it had alot to do with the decision -- but if I was in charge of colt i would have considered it too. They are too high priced and not built to "accepted" standard of everyone else -- so sales probably don't look great. Nothing against colt they make a fine firearm but they are not competing well in the current market.

Colt had a history of playing games over the years when a person could buy a full auto Colt 's policy was to never sell to that business that sold one to a citizen. Then they played games with their takedown pin sizes and sear blocking lowers. I'm sure that was a good business move but you could fix both issues with a class III stamp.

almost identical stories 229 about ten years ago a guy traded one in to a local gun shop that a friend of mine works at and he knew i was looking for an ar,he didnt want it and called me about it,had like two mags ran through it, match target 2,gun shop wanted 1500 for it and i offered 800,they asked why i offered that and i said i know thats what they gave for it,via my buddy that works there, they sold it to me for that.and i bought a 300 scope for it(full price) cause they gave me the deal on the gun,i too always wanted a colt.we are all friends at this shop so it was a friendly deal, then my buddy said he had some colt mags somewhere and was gonna look for them,he came to my shop acouple days later and said he only found 1,i asked what he wanted for it and being the only one he had he didnt really want to sell it,but instead he handed it to me saying its yours no cost, good friends are golden.will never part with that gun

I heard on the radio today there are about 400 companies in the world besides Colt that makes the AR type rifle. They said that was one thing that nudged Colt out. Still don’t like to see it happen but if it was in reality economics in part then that happens. It was a guy that was in the gun manufacturing business.

Think they are saying that so many manufacturers in this market, they might be better making something more profitable.

I consider myself a Colt collector (mainly double action revolvers, however) and have been keeping up with this. I don’t think they wussed out. This was simply a supply and demand thing. Timing looks kinda bad, but I think it’s just a coincidence. They left the door open to renter the civilian market also.
I think it was a smart decision- they’ll do well to focus (at least on the civilian side) more on their return to the revolver world as they have been fairly successful in that space lately.

I think Colt's timing was terrible if the decision was based on market competition and profit margins rather than politics. If it was a political decision Colt could suffer the same way S&W suffered when they caved to the left.
