Yes to a degree , but your body processes them differently. Alcohol is a toxin that your liver "filters" out of your body; sugars are "processed" by your liver, pancreas, and kidneys.

I gave up all soda 15 years ago, I drink a few seasonal beers here and there, throughout the year. My bourbon, gin , and vodka habit was the worse to brake . It takes all my will power to refrain but I'm doing good so far. . Now nothing but water, coffee, and a glass of milk a few times a week for me.

The body does not treat artificial sweeteners the same as sugar, that is just nonsense. The sweeteners only fool the tongue, they have no impact on any other part of the body and are harmless.

Not quite true. Artificial sweeteners basically trick your body into thinking that it's going to receive sugar/ calories, but when the sugar doesn't come, your body continues to signal that it needs more, which results in feeling hungry. Besides worsening insulin sensitivity and promoting weight gain, aspartame and other artificial sweeteners also promote other health problems associated with excessive sugar consumption, including cardiovascular disease and stroke. I wouldn't consider anything artificial as "harmless", heck even tap water isn't harmless.
