If he is sold out just message him and he is quick to respond. Great guy and great products.

I did notice on the picture on his site that the bevel is on the wrong side of the blade. Makes chopping into the ground twice as hard.

I built my own and Iv'e been using In for 15 years never had a issue with It yet. At the end of the season I just toss It Into a pail of water so the wood handle swells up and stays tight.

Swung a 28 oz framing hammer for years and it will easily drive in stakes and dig trap beds.

I wasn’t that lucky... I picked one up at a local hardware store for 30$ this morning. I was just digging around with it and it digs like I hoped.

Pick up a trapping hammer from any supply house. Knock out the handle that will blow up in your face (yes I’ve done it). Find a buddy that can weld. Get a piece of pipe and be done. Three seasons on the one and I had the second made for backup. I’ll lose the first one before I break it with the best Nebraska has to offer.

Wade have you ever tried a hammer with a straight sod buster blade instead of angled down like those?

I like the way the straight digs in as opposed to the angled...straight don't glance as much.

I haven't Jayme but I don't know why it would be any different. I just use those out of convenience. If the ground is hard enough I'm worried about the first couple blows shooting dirt up in my face I use a pick axe.

I feel the problem with the angled digging head Is your digging a trench or a bowl shaped trap bed. I like to dig the trap bed so It has straight sides and Is just about as big as the trap. This allows you to bed that trap more solid wit a minimum of effort. It also allows less disturbance to the surrounding ground. This makes the animals approach to the set on undisturbed solid ground.

I never considered one of those trap bed cutting devices that you hammer Into the ground but I'm thinking about It.

I tried 1 time using a cookie cutter in frozen rocky ground...never again. In perfect conditions I think they would be priceless just don’t work for my style, and the one I tried was to bulky. Just my 02

Thanks for the reply. I have heard of a few guys that really prefer the straight blade for the reasons Beav stated, and the glancing off cope mentioned. I always hated the angled blade in frozen ground, should of gotten myself a pick axe!

I'm with Cope on the cookie cutter. Waste of space when the ground freezes. Much more work trying to pound one of them in the frozen ground than a couple hits from the pick axe and go from there. I do a lot of step down dirtholes in trenches so I guess the angled blade doesn't effect me as much as it would someone trying to make a flat set etc...
