I think I have decided instead of getting new strings and cables on my compound I would rather buy a good recurve or longbow. I dont really intend to deer hunt with it. too much gun season here. I do really enjoy just target shooting with a bow. I do have a recurve now but it is a PSE kingfisher. Its heavy as a block and doesnt have a arrow shelf worth a hoot on it, it was meant to be shot with a rest and really to shoot fishing arrows. I tried to get good enough to hunt with it but about 30 yards was my extreme limit I could hit anything consistently. I tried a buddies high end bear once at a range and could shoot it really well so i figured if i got a good bow i could probably actually do something with it. Im thinking i want something in the 40-45lb draw range and i want it to be reasonably light and have a good shelf so i can see if i can ever be a fat robin hood. So does anyone have any recommendations? Of course i want all those things and be reasonably priced too lol. So realistically a good bow at a decent price. Im not set on recurve or a longbow, I would go either way.

I am also considering going more primitive, but I’d like to hunt that way. Along with a flintah for muzzleloader hunting. I hear you can’t go wrong with some fella named Bear.

That is a nice bow. I dont know if im ready for that price tag though. What draw weight would you consider minimum for deer? The PSE i have is 55lbs and it gets a little rough if you are just sitting there target practicing for a while. I think my state minimum is 30lbs, i think that is a little low. I was leaning towards about 40-45 to make it a little more friendly to playing around in the back yard. If i can get good enough i would like to take it out and to pop a few rabbits or something. Im fairly good with a compound bow but the traditional bows im still new to.

It’s 57 lbs @28 inches.....and now at 63 ...I wish it was 45 lbs...for playing around .. But now...I have to work myself into bow shape to shoot it. Here in NH...a bow has to be a least 40 lb @28 to be legal.

I have considered making a self bow. I feel fairly certain i can make a bow shaped object. I dont know which way i want to go yet. Im tinkering around looking on ebay trying to figure out about what a decent used bow goes for. Heck i dont know if want a recurve or longbow yet honestly.

I do have 4 kids and a wife that all have interest in archery. Heck the wife has a decent little target bow, but she is left handed so i cant figure out how to use hers. Im sure about the time i start shooting again the kids will want a proper bow, they are getting old enough now to pull back some decent weight and already outgrown their kid bows. So I may have started myself down another rabbit hole.

I have a Stalker Coyote. I've owned several good recurves over the years but I shoot this one better than any I've ever had. You should go to Tannehill to the pre spring fling or the Howard Hill classic and shoot a bunch and buy one there.

South Cox at Stalker Stickbows has a grow with you bow for kids. You can swap out the limbs as they outgrow them. Just a thought.
