Interesting. Still doesn't change the way I handle them in a trap.
Wish I had more time to trap....

eagle eye I don't know. been dead a long while. biggest one I ever saw though. base of its tail was as big around as the big end of a mag light. my wife would hold it on her lap of an evening and feed it grapes. really liked those hairless baby mice pet shops sell to feed snakes also.

This one was packing meals for a week it looked like it had over 200 ticks on it. What they often leave out is the fact that they carry a virus that can kill a horse. They flat out stink they can clear a room even when tiny I raised 4 out of 8 a few years ago and they stink.

wife would bathe hers. I don't think they all carry epm law dog. not good when a horse gets it. grandson lost a horse to it a few years ago. not pretty. chickens are a lot better at cleaning up ticks. never ate a possum they might be good too but really like eating chicken. think if tick control was a goal I would just have chickens in the yard.

The whole “they eat up to 5000 ticks a year based on studies” is false, here’s the lowdown on the “several studies”
One study where 100 tick were artificially planted on a SINGLE opossum The opossum ate or GROOMED off 96 of the ticks
THE END
So from this information we get the myth that Opossums eat up to 5000 ticks per year Every artIcle I’ve read leads back to this SINGLE STUDY OF A SINGLE OPOSSUM
Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!
If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell
