I'm moving off the grid and need to buy a propane freezer. What are the good brands and how efficient are they?

Dometic is the most popular one out there but they are not very efficient. I went a different route with an inverter and a bank of batteries running my compressor fridge freezer ice maker. The penny runs over the day and come evening the batteries are full and run the place till the next morning.

I have a Consul propane refrigerator/freezer, I’m sure Sevel still makes them.

Look in Amish supply catalogs. I have seen them advertised. I don't have experience using them.

I am going to assume ( assumption being the mother of all screw ups ) that you are running a generator over the day time anyway. Thats what I do for my setup. So if you hook up some golf cart batteries and a inverter charger, You can run your generator and the inverter will charge the batteries. When you turn it off, the transfer switch changes from generator power and charging to inverting. The tv does not even flicker when that happens. Now the fridge , lights etc, run on the batteries till next morning when you push the missus out of bed to go and turn the generator back on and make some coffee.
