So ever since I got more into welding and started doing more projects for folks and my new position at work I have an ever going list of stuff I hear from non welders and people who are "welders". When I say that I'm talking about the guy who ran a chicken crap pile of 6011 on a piece of farm equipment 10 years ago and they think their an expert now. It's different than some who just doesn't know or is curious. Seems everytime one of these types comes around I get some of the following.

" You should just use a ole E 6011 "
" That dang 7018 is gonna burn right through "
" It ain't gotta be pretty"
" Yeah you gotta do that ole circular motion "
"A pretty weld will break a dang bubblegum weld will"
" You ever heli-arced "
" Why you wasting time grinding all that rust off all that rust off ? You can weld right through that with that arc welder !"
"If you where a real welder you wouldn't worry about all that fancy saftery equipment"
" If you know how to weld then you wouldn't need that grinder !"
" Just bring your helmet we got everything you'll need"
" I have no clue why you brought that welding bucket the job is supposed to supply everything you need "
The list goes on but those are the most common ones. So welders of Tman what are some things yall hear alot ?

Any one can weld with a mig
You don't need to have a good fit for a good weld
Just keep that arc about 1/2 inch away from the metal you want to weld

A few of my favorites, LOL

Professional welder (production, job shop, and self employed), tool and die maker, mold maker, and blacksmith.

I built a 140 foot tall tower with two grain legs in it for my neighbor back in 1981. All welded with an E6010 root pass and E7018 filler and cover pass. It is still standing and is straight as an arrow. cool

Keep on keepin on, Buddy.

I welded from.1975 to 2010.
Boilermakers, iron workers, pattern shops, machine shops etc.
Heard it all.

If i had to grade myself I'd give me a B+.
There were plenty.of guys who could weld way better.
My welds were pretty and they were tested
Plate and pipe.

All I need is just a tack! Or I know how to weld but, I want you to do it. Or, hurry up! This does not matter. These are just a few that comes to mind.

Why does it take you an hour? I can do that in 10 minutes.

I was a machinist, have a brother who is as certified as a welder can be, the man knows welding better than me as a machinist knows machining. You deal with the wannabes, you deal with engineers who know paper and not the process. You deal with a lot of things, bottom line, you push all those idiots and your personal bs to the wayside and do your job and then go ho home. (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) the drama, just do your job and go home. The world doesn't need another cry baby.

I'm no welder but have done some. I asked the contractor foreman how to set your heat correctly one time. He stated he couldn't properly answer but when you have your heat set right it wil "sound like your frying sausage". He's not the only welder I've heard say that.
