Yesterday I made my way to The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at Elwood, Illinois.
I was asked by my brother in law, Ken Lord, if I would go to the funeral service for his brother Robert Lord. Bob was a Marine vet.
This was my first visit to any National Cemetery. What an experience it was. The respect those working at the cemetery for the deceased was wonderful. I watched in awe at the row after row of stone markers across the cemetery. Stone after stone, each one looking almost the same, but each one having a different story of a hero being buried in those sacred grounds.
My hat is off to the people working at these places. What a service you perform to those who rest there and those loved ones who have friends and family residing there.
God Bless you one and all.

I attended a service there for one of my good friends. It was a very moving experience.

Arborists and tree services volunteer their time and equipment on Arbor Day at the National Cemeteries to help maintain the grounds. It is called Saluting Branches, and gives you a chance to give back to the people who served our country. I felt honored to volunteer my time.

There is a outstanding Military Cemetery in Michigan, I have only seen pictures of it, it is on the top of my bucket list. It is on the East side of the State.

Wisconsin has three Veteran Cemeteries, Southern, Central and Northern WI. I attended a funeral at the Noethern WI Veterans Cemetery this past July for the brother of a good friend. The deceased was a highly decorated, retired US Army Special Forces veteran. He died unexpectedly.
Anyway, the Army sent a special honor guard for the service. Very sobering to say the least. I plan to be interred there someday myself.
