Last spring I I won nice Mathew's cross bow.. Figure to maybe use it this fall if I fill my gun tag early switch to crossbow stay in the woods.. Anyway the bow came with almost everything need to go case, scope, 3 bolts, cocking rope...zero in at 20 yards really easy and probably take it out to 30-40 before go in woods with it. What I don't have is a quiver and broad heads.. Quiver for bolts I can figure out may make one from one of old compound quivers. Just because think I can.. What I'm really lost on is what broad heads to get. Seems from what little I've check has to be cross bow heads or they will just come apart when fired. I like things simple but it seems like a lot of the heads are mechanical? I'm not sure about all the how many grains weight and all that. Bolt are 22 inch and I'd like a simple solid 3 or 4 blade head..I don't need expensive or fancy just need solid and functional. My compound I was shooting the old satellite titans if that tells you anything. What are guys out there shooting??? I got no idea what to do.. and of course shop here recommends all expensive stuff.

Shoot some sort of expandable blade. You can sight in with your field points, then just screw them on and go hunting. They cost more but there is no comparison as far as performance. One deer and you’ll be hooked. You’re shooting a top of the line crossbow, don’t skimp on the most important part!

I guess there is that being able to site in with filed points which I have, not shoot couple blades to site in..Just hard to change my old ways and go modern with mechanical blades. Not like I'm going to shoot this bow that much, but then your right why shoot crap.. I only got $20.00 in it whole thing now as that is what I paid for the raffle ticket.. Sure hate that 3 bolts with lumin-nocks are like $60.00. Been told I'm really going to want them lited nocks..Never had them on any regular arrow. Guess I've seen enough videos to get why people like them. Then ya got to screw on a $20.00 broad head on each bolt..Then probably loose bolt even if ya hit the deer and blow threw.. Guess got quit thinking like a cheap old man?

Fixed blade. Seen to many mechanical failures cost people trophies. Not looking to argue, but between deer, bear and elk, I'll stay fixed. Do you buy like 6 then practice shoot 3 hunt with 3? With my stick bows and old compound I used to buy 12 heads shoot 6 for target and carry the other 6 in woods.. Think I even had some that came with a couple matched target points?? I really haven't done much with the bow hunting stuff for several years other than shoot carp.. So I'm way out of the game on all these fancy new broad heads they sell. I don't recall to many of them blades I used to use costing as much as they want for one of some of the newer points. Mac

this is ignorant! while mechs generally fly like a fieldpoint it is stupid to just assume and go hunting without testing first.

I shoot schwacker 3 blade, they even come with a practice tip and 3 real tipss. I have used them the last 3 years and have always been happy with them, longest kill was 40 yards and complete pass through * Lungs and opposite shoulder) Like following a paint trail. Hope it helps

Mac, it sounds like we have the same crossbow. We also have the Rage orange expandable broadheads, but haven't really tried any other kinds, so we cannot make a comparison there. Our broadheads came with a field tip that was supposed to be matched to them for sighting in. We still shot a broadhead at a target just to be sure they matched and sighted in the same. They did. No matter what you use for broadheads, never scoff at the cost of Lumenoks or any lighted nock! That is the item that will get you your entire $40 back. I have shot a number of deer from in a blind, and shooting parallel to the ground can result in the bolt flying under the ground cover after a pass-through - where I never would have found it. With the Lumenok, if I don't see it right away, I wait until dark and it looks like a spaceship has landed. Too much fun! When we got the crossbow, Zim laughed at my need for the Lumenoks because I would tend to buy anything that looked like fun, but we've retrieved every arrow, he now is on board with my love for the Luminok.
