strike2x OP trapper Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 3,446 Houghton Lake, MI	Caught this nice big beaver today. He weighs about 55 pounds. I figured he was more. I only had a mechanical bathroom scale so my weight might be off a bit. The surprise part is that I had set on a take out run where the trees had been cut no more than 12 Inches up. I figured I was going to get a 30 pounder by my evaluation of the sight. I am wondering if this big guy kicked the little ones out and took over since the trap was in for 3 days with no activity. The pond was once a very active one but the beaver all move on because they had eaten all the close stuff. This is the first beaver out of that pond in 5 years. The low cuts were on 2 inch trees. Only one bigger tree and that was only 5 or 6 inches. There are no bigger trees on that side of the pond. There are some on the other side where I may go investigate tomorrow. Wish I had more time to trap....
