No I have not. Built a skinner years ago with a boat winch and a pulley up in the ceiling and vice grips attached to a turnable anchor system on the floor. The boat winch I use a rope and the winch has a break so you can turn it up or down. We even skinned a deer and pulled the hide right off. I have not seen that boat winch at Fleet Farm for some time.

I'd like to see a video because it's that initial grip that I'm wanting to see. They look like they'd work great once you've skinned enough to get the free fur below the head but just not sure before that.

You only need just a little fur past the tail on the back to roll or clamp in the gate. Hopefully ND's video will help. Its kind of hard to explain but easy to do.
I bought some anchors for cement today. I'm planning to bolt down each style under my skinner and do a short video on their operation soon as I get a chance.
Here you go, I could only get one fresh coon today to demo, since I haven't started trapping yet, so I had to use a small one for the hide gate that we shot Sunday. You should still be able to get the idea how they work.
I really didn't see a lot of difference but for some reason I like the roller skinner a little better, not sure why. I won't switch from the original style with the vice grips that I'm used to but folks like choices.
Am I missing something here? Having looked at the vice grip versus these two it looks like a little less skinning with the vice grip to get the process started.?

Not much difference really, at least the way I do it. (some folks don't have the ceiling height or just can't get the hang of the vice grip style for whatever reason)
