With virginia in the process of outlawing youth hunts will it create opportunities in surrounding states for Guided Hunts?

Wife said DGIF put out a statement that nothing has changed.
We teach hunter ed and they usually send a e mail if something
changes.

If this rumor is true, they are far from "idiots" Their goal is precisely for us to lose.

If it's only a rumor I wouldn't post it on here as if it were fact.

I suppose it should be taken down as the question came from an “interpretation” of the phone call, I mean post.

Here is the post that came across my news feed.

Yesterday Governor Northam announced the End of Youth Hunting!

The Governor reaffirmed that we will see "Legislation enhancing the punishment for allowing access to loaded, unsecured firearm by a child from a Class 3 Misdemeanor to a Class 6 felony. The bill also raises the age of the child from 14 to 18."

Unfortunately, that would prevent responsible children from hunting even squirrels with a .22.

This is the end of a 400 year tradition of kids helping put food on their family’s table if Notham gets away with it.

Va changed a number of things in the F&G regs last year, changes for the better. As a licensed hunter who purchases my license on line, DGIF has my email. I received an email from DGIF with the proposed changes and the opportunity to comment, which I did. I have seen nothing from DGIF proposing to curtail or limit youth hunts and I think it is too soon for proposed changes to the regs to be out. Therefore, I think this is an unsubstantiated rumor. It may be something being discussed that has not been finalized and is unlikely to be proposed, but who knows what will happen now that we are going to be totally controlled by Dems.

Yes, this is one of Northam's proposed gun control measures that were defeated by the Republican majority House of Delegates. It did not get out of conference, suffering the same fate as all of his other anti-2nd Amendment proposals. I suspect most of those proposals will be passed shortly after the baton is handed off, but this one is less likely to get passed because it attacks hunting and not just gun ownership.

Pray that he bundles the “access restriction” for an eighteen year old child in with the proposed hunting regulations.

So Democrats want to raise the age of the "child" from 14 to 18 for firearms and also raise the age of smoking and vaping from 18 to 21 yet change the voting age to 16. Schizophrenic much?

If you change the age of voting to 16, you get brainwashed "CHILDREN" voting!

WI has had a whole variety of youth hunts for many species and many years and our hunting license purchases continue to decline annually and when one considers items like small game hunting it is rare to see a youth doing so. I believe they are getting so in tuned to having a special hunt and special privileges that just being part of the main group of hunters is not what they care to do. To me the usage of special youth hunts is a lot more about gratifying a few youth and adults then expanding or even maintaining hunter numbers or hunter days in the field. However I don't agree with removing those hunts unless there is a demonstrated reason to do so or other options may work better to increase hunting. If hunting continues to decline as a sport nationwide then wildlife agencies will have to depend even more on taxes to help control species and or ADC resources that will pass the cost burden on to those that utilize those services.
