I liked underall sponges until the first time it rained then froze and I could practically stand on the pan without firing. I dislike the idea of polyfill since it’s impossible to gather up at the end and will never degrade. Latex is awesome but pricey. Just using screens and peat moss these days.

I used poly for years until I saw like USMC47 noticed when it gets really cold. Now I'm filed my dogs on 550's down to 1/32 so they fire with very little down ward motion. We designed the Alpha like a trigger on a fine rifle, no creep. I remember one of my mentors years ago told me "the pan is the pan cover, adjust your traps right and none is needed" Even with waxed sand polly accumulates moisture over time. I waited for a problem coyote last year for a month , it was 10 that night. Stepped right on it, trap didn't fire. The polly was an ice cube. Lesson learned the hard way!

I only use my underpants once I'm out of coffee filters...
Cleaner side up of course.

I too have tried everything and caught coyotes on all of them, from wad of dry grass to screen. I had problem with screen in Texas where the sand was so fine it sifted down through the screen under the pan. I have settled on coffee filters which i have used a lot of over the years and probably won't change again.

I used waxed paper for first time this season and it worked great as a pan cover.

Waxed dirt below, waxed paper for pan cover, waxed dirt on top. Never had a single trap froze down or not firing. Caught a nice bunch of coyotes and a cat. Worked great.

I used to do fiberglass under the pan but couple years ago the fiber glass would soak up melted snow and rain and freeze solid like a rock under the pan to where to trap would fire .frustrating as (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) for me.
Tired something new this year with the waxed paper and I’m really surprised at how well this works.

Wax paper. I like the deli style ones so I don't even have to tear it off the roll, it comes in pre cut squares so it's quick and easy

When I switched to only using the Harris NDZ traps and due to their unique pan design, I found that disks made from the 1/16” packing foam (purchased from Uline) worked perfectly. They were just stiff enough to not allow the waxed sand to “belly” under the pan edges. For years I used the same foam disks when trail setting in snow and they worked great for that application as well regardless of the trap I used.

The wife has a paper cutter and I'm cheap. So I just take a roll and cut it all into squares on her paper cutter and fold them in half and put them in gallon ziploc bags. Just about the right size for going underneath big wolf traps in snow sets, on some of the big traps the levers stick out, but I just rip a strip off the one I'm using for a pan cover and wrap that around one lever and offcenter the trap on the square so every part of the trap has wax paper between it and the snow. When using them for smaller traps I do have to tear it down to size, I could cut smaller squares, but this way I don't have to dig through stuff to find the right size, it is all in one bag and it is easy enough to rip a square down to size.

The boxes the rolls come in have a cutter on them, but by the first couple days setting I always end up getting the box wet and then it falls apart.

Have used poly-fill but planning on switching to underalls. Just think they'd be easier.

I use both pipe insulation under the pan and fiberglass screen over on my No BS extremes and Duke 650’s. Bed in waxed dirt.

I've gone to the NDZ 6.5 Harris traps and the brown coffee filters fit just right.

No cutting at all, just lay on top and cover.

Let me sugar coat this

It really depends where you’re at what your conditions are where I’m at a foam under all with Sand Pete Moss mix topped off with just Duff to blend in if I was in the area where it froze a lot I would not do it like that I would probably go Pan cover screen wire pan cover with wax dirt.

Coffee filter. Wax dirt under the trap, filter on the pan and wax dirt to cover. Also helps cut down on the amount of dirt needed, not alot but enough to make me feel better. lol
