I got one on October 26th, the first day of NJ permit bow. I was a little on the high side and must’ve just brushed underneath his spine because he just dropped. Went in just over the shoulder and out of his left lung. He stopped breathing in the time it took me to climb out of the stand and walk 20 yards though. So overall, pretty good shot imo. Didn’t have to hit him again.

I’ve seen lots and lots of deer shot in the neck make full recoveries. I’ve never once seen a deer shot through both lungs recover. So on that note, I’ll stick to the old trusty double lung shot.
To call someone an idiot for a poorly placed shot is out of line though. If you’ve never goofed up and miffed a shot you haven’t hunted much. Everyone has a mulligan now and then.

Ok IF that was a pass thru hit in that spot with a broad head the only pics would be in the back of a truck !!!!!
That looks like a glancing hit downward that sliced the skin. Plus neck shots are not a bad choice . If I am on the ground and a buck is walking straight at me the neck is the one and only shot for me. they are a very poor shot with a bow unless the deer is facing you and you can put it into the chest. a broadside shot there does not guarentee a dead deer and i have witnessed several broadside neck shots that did not end woth a dead deer.

My cousin was bow hunting in Idaho and had a deer come in to his stand, 40 yards out and well within his comfort zone. Quartering slightly towards him, he drew and released for what he thought was gonna be a double lung hit. Except at the last split second the deer snapped it’s head around to look behind him and started to turn, and the arrow caught him in the face, nasal cavity halfway between his eyes and nose. Still killed him just by sheer blood loss but just another example of how quickly a good shot can turn bad
