I wouldn't put much stock in gimmicks to catch cats.Get to know their unique habits among the furbearers and they are easy to catch with basic sets that take advantage of those habits.

I agree! My personal experience is its more about location than anything. First cat i ever caught was on a piece of beaver meat in a cage trap and no lures... one thing i would worry about with something like glow sticks is i think it would stand out to other people in the dark. Might give away your set...

It doesn't hurt to experiment and try new things. It keeps it interesting.
That said, most trappers that rack up the fur settle on one or two proven sets and repeat those ad nauseum.

May I ask how long would you think it takes a cat to come back around a place after it goes through an area?

Others may differ but up here my cameras say every 4-5 days. That I'm sure is dependent on food abundance. When I have winter bait piles out cats are on them every day, for whatever reason if it's a roadkill deer the cats show up about the time the ribs are exposed. They are not the first on the bait as a rule.

Never used a glow stick. But I did rig up a couple Small LED diode lites to a 2 AA battery pack. It lasted a long time. Caught cats with this near the sets. Did it Help? Would I have caught the cats there anyway? Don't know. But it was fun just doing something different. Remember curiosity killed the cat

I found tracks along a river kinda wondering if that cat may just keep following the river or if it may live in the area I will keep the set working till my season is up.

Cats move different than canines.Where I am cats will stay around a food source until it is depleted, often in a family group.Once the rabbits are thinned out they move to the next pocket, which could be a few miles away, then set up shop there for a while. They use the same travel routes when they move between concentrated food sources. There are spots where cats will stay for a week, then move.Sometimes they come back for a look, but don't stay if there are no rabbits. They will work the same areas year after year.
Sets between the food pockets on their travelways will take cats but you may have to check empty sets for a while before they connect. Better to locate where they are hunting and make sets there.Set on sign. The results will be much quicker and often more than one cat will be caught in those spots.
It takes a bit of time out on the land to locate the food pockets and travel routes.Tracks in the snow tell you what you need to know.
Generally speaking, and this holds true for all furbearers, find the food source you will find the fur.
