I think grey fox fur would be a little fragile for mittens. Would make a nice hat though. I once read where the Jewish people were big into grey fox hats.

agree with beav- go with a hat X3 mittens can take quite a beating and gray fox doesn’t wear well when it’s getting beaten on and rubbed Go with a hat with a little care it will last for years, my ex made a hat out of the first gray I caught and she still wears it every winter and that was 20 some years ago

Lots of guys in Alaska wear fur hats. Marten beaver otter and seal are the main choice I would say. Grey Fox should be good. Regardless, if you go with the hat be sure its the Alaska Trapper style pattern which has triangular shape piece of fur on the front as opposed to the Japanese/Canuck style with the flat rectangular piece of fur like you see for sale at The Gap. They are typically worn "1/2 flaps" which is the tied at the back of the neck. If it's really cold or you're riding your snow machine etc then you might go full flaps or tied under the chin. If it's hot, then it's tied on top or taken off altogether.
