A J E I usually set on sign , but over the years I know where they like to travel around our property. I set by culverts, rock piles, old abandoned buildings , grassy creek bottoms, grassy willow patches ect… Just keep an eye open for their tracks while checking your other traps. I use scrap deer meat , I salt it some what so it dose not freeze. I just bought some Dunlaps weasel lure , so far I got 2 on it. Oh I forgot to mention that I use the mice that get caught in the trap for bait also . [Linked Image]

I get them once in a while , not too common around here mostly short tails.

The Victor rat traps work fine for the bigger longtails then?

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I haven't noticed their tracks around here, but there's probly more weasels than a person'd realize. I'lll look into gettin some boxes out. I'm thinking of trying some coil springs, maybe size 1...keep the mice out.

Speaking of the rat style traps tho, Wolf Creek makes 1 now, but I haven"t heard of anyone that's tried 'em yet.

So, what type of habitat do you guys look for when setting for weasels? I've never seen any and have never set for any.
Does anyone have pictures of their tracks? Preferably with a size reference? I'd like to try to get one or two.

I tried #1 Victor coils and they were way too strong and pan tension was say too heavy.Long springs are way easier to get a light tension on.I still think the rat trap is probably the best way to go.

Top pic is a weasel trail in a alder patch, first trail like this that I have ever found.
Second pic is bounding tracks , aprox. 14 inches between tracks. Pic should be turned 90 degrees but I don't know how to do that.
Third pic is one that will tic off a trapper weasel went in and out of trap , trap already had a mouse in it .
next 2 pics are location pics. top one is by a small creek bottom is by a old fence post pile, notice old rat trap screwed to post .That is one way I use to trap them .

Yes, that helps a lot! Do you have dimensions for the box you are using?
Thanks for the help!
Tony

I've seen some boxes where the bait has a screen separaring it from the back of the box. It might deter mice some

I haven't heard of anyone using them yet, but I'm curious how good they work.
