Call john grahm or wayne derrick and tell them you need a rub lure. When you find the right spot put your lure about a foot off the ground and fence it down leaving a gap for your trap. you need a spot naturally necked down already that cats are passing by. a good location can not be created anyplace you find tracks. Dirt holes are VERY effective too. When you find a good rub spot just keep it to yourself. Its like finding a toilet. You can pick up a cat or three there every year.

Some rub ingredients are: castor, otter glands, sweet musk, civet, tainted muskratglands, and beaver sack oil.Any lures with one or more of these, should work and I am sure there are others. It is important to keep it up,at least shoulder height of the cat,to keep him on his feet and not rolling.Straight castor will work,Add a little skunk and you have a good cat lure.

Ah, so that's how it works. The cat really worked that set. I wonder if Ishould look for a tree that's already scraped up, or maybe create my own if I find the right spot Maybe a tree that was marked by a buck would be a good start. Season opens Thursday.

It's a little bit of a pain but sometimes I take my rub sets in when I make the set. I'm building a log cabin and the ends I trimmed off make for an easy to place rub post. Some are pretty substantial in size being a foot or more wide at the base and twenty inches tall. They're stable, have a built in backing to them and they are easy to place anywhere I see cat activity, especially on logging roads where I really want the set to stand out.

My scouting today revealed what appeared to be bobcat tracks near a spot where there's a tree I think might work good to try to turn into a rub tree. I'll probably give it a try. I got some of the good Lenon lure for the rub set. I need to decide where to place the trap in relation to rub post.
Thanks

Trap placement isn't that important,AJE,if you block it in right. Two traps, side by side, might not be a bad idea.Rake back the snow or leaves to make a strong visual.

I evolved into a create my own guy. When you find a likely spot plant a stick and smear the castor. It really is that easy and the Bobcats are not even close to bashful.
Good luck, something about having a few good cat sets out makes every morning feel like it might be Christmas

Thanks. I don't ever remember being this excited. Some on here trap bobcats all the time but this is my 1st ever pursuit and I've waited 6 years for the tag. I've found sign. What's interesting is the guy across the road will be trapping bobcat starting later this week too. I'm confident 1 of us will connect, hopefully me

I really hope you connect, your enthusiasm for catching a cat is off the charts. Just like mine was...still is.
Throw the kitchen sink at them, curiosity killed the cat.

Catch one and get back to us LOL. It gets my blood pumping like a huge bass on top water or a red head in boots pulling horses.

Last season a nice big male bobcat hit a coyote pee post set hours after it was put in. Had coyote gland on the top, too. Possums have also ended up in pee posts, so probably most animals are attracted to them. Nice thing about them is there's no bait to be robbed

I like to find a small rough barked tree next to a deer trail and smear poly fill and castor on it. The eye appeal stands out and the smell gets them next to the tree.
