I just pulled a few. Washers are bent. Can I take a hammer flatten them back out? Or do I need to put a new washer on? I am using 1.5 inch fender washers.

I usually just flatten them back out if not too terribly bent.

Just flatten them back out. I run a lot of 2 inch when we have a wet year.

A vice works very well for flattening them back out. With the rivit still in just drop the bottom half into the vice, thighten, loosen, turn 1/4 turn, and repeat 4 quarters and they're flat. Much easier and more precise than the hammer method.

I used pogos for first time this year on snares and DPs and I really like them. Cheapo, and held really well. I may try them.for coyote and land coon sets next year. I made pilot holes this year with a super stake driver then used my pogo driver, this was advice from a friend who used to use them and got tired of bending tips on his drivers he used to go through several drivers a season.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I just started using them this year I tried putting the 1.25 washers on my J hooks and had to bend them to get them on and then restraighten them. Seemed to do ok and a lot easier than double staking traps. I did have one pull back out of the driver hole and the cable get cut or work it's way out the ferrule while pulling to set the anchor. Doesn't seem like much but when you have to carry everything in and the anchors were pre attached to the traps I lost out on setting a couple traps. My driver got clogged with mud on the last one so much I can't fit a washer in it until I clean it so that worried me a little for next time. From now on I'm buying my J hooks and washers pre attached for convenience, those heavy J hooks aren't no joke trying to close

lone wolf get you a pair of fencing pliers and you will make short work of closing heavy duty J hooks that's what I use and I actually have a spare pair in the truck. you can use them to close the hooks and also open the hooks as well.

That is why I went to wolf fangs and bought a heavy duty driver. I made my pogo driver and pogos. Between the mud, bent tips and pogos coming off end while driving them, the whole thing was about to give me a twitch.

Yes sir it is! I bent a point a little. Got it back in line. I haven't got to use it much. There working good. I didnt know if I could only use the washer once. My puller I built works great. Built it like you said. I have pulled a tendon or tore it. Cant use my arm much. Thanks again.

that's crazy I did something to a tendon or something in my left wrist and im left handed. I just beat the washer back as flat as I can get it and use it again. I don't bend very many cause my ground is farm ground with not much rock where im setting traps they drive in easy and they pull fairly easy.

I'll have to see if my earth anchor driver from F&T will drive pogo's. I bought some pogo's last year. I believe my driver is for Freedom Brand earth anchors.

A hacksaw blade cleans them grooves out real well most times you can push the washer in from the side and clear the groove ,when that wont work or its frozen it sure is handy to have a hacksaw blade around

Just thinking out loud here , I know the pogo driver is somewhat delicate on the bottom end so what if a guy were to make it out of 5/8” rod . I’ve made two of them over the years and need to straighten the ends fairly regular. My wolf fang driver is made of 5/8” and their is no problem with driving it in the ground , can’t help but think it would hold up better than 1/2” .

Maybe I'm off based but I kinda wanna see if my earth anchor driver will drive pogo's. When you guys say pogo's take a special driver, I guess I never really was sure what it took to drive those pogos.

I know this is an old post , but I was wondering how many are still using the pogo method of staking. To me it seems like a cheap way to accomplish the same thing, and maybe a little more hands on which to me would be fun. Coming up with all kinds of ideas for summer projects.

I bought some but haven't tried them yet. They seem like a good enough method for some situations

I have about 100 2 inch but decided to go with wolf fangs. Our ground is just to hard and the washer was folding over. Also wolf fangs are cheaper.

Those using wolf fangs, how do they do getting pulled out and reused? I've noticed with berkshire in PA they will get bent up.

In my experience they are reusable.

How do pogos work? I've been thinking of switching. Are they attached to a cable with a loop on both ends so that way when you pull it up, it will hopefully just open up the J hook? I had multiple wolf fangs this year straighten J hooks and breaking ferrules.

Can make one pretty easy. As for hard ground, I made a starter rod. Used 1/2 inch round rod, cut a slot in the middle and welded 1/4" x 1 1/2" flat bar in the slot. I then sharpened it to a point and a lot of sloppy weld along the edge to keep it strong. But in my worst winter I only have to get down about 8" until it's soft.

Also made a 4 foot rod with a slot and an indent to rest the J hook. I use this in the swamp. I just push the 2 inch pogo into the marsh. Works so much better than any type of other staking in the marsh.

I make my own out of 1/2 black pipe cut about 2" off weld a 1/4" nut on top. They work good.
