2X enough seeps through to start up but not enough fuel to keep it running.

Quick test , have someone start it , while you feed it some ether into the air intake. If it keeps running on ether , you know you have a fuel delivery problem.
Good to have a fire extinguisher handy while playing with ether .
Some good responses so far , sounds about right.

MAF was just a thought. Have had several come into the garage with debris on the wires, no codes stored. All those vehicles would start and die. I've seen that too. Also most fuel related issues will flag a code for insufficient fuel pressure. But easier to stuff some ether into the intake as a quick test than test a MAF sensor. I like to try the easy stuff first. Big fan of the K.I.S.S. principal. Had a tech in a shop I worked at do a head gasket on a car. Got it back together , fired it up. It ran for 30 seconds then shut off. Crank and start , it would run for 5 seconds. Just like it was out of gas. He spent 3 hours troubleshooting it double checking his work. Other techs asked him if it had gas , he replied there was a half tank. Gas gauge was broken , it was out of gas.

Points, cap and rotor days. Don't forget the knob on the dash for the choke!

However , a good skill to have , some older power equipment still may have points. I still own a dwell meter and a Snap-on timing light. Some distributor wrenches are lost in the back of my toolbox just collecting dust and slowly rusting.

MAF was just a thought. Have had several come into the garage with debris on the wires, no codes stored. All those vehicles would start and die. Did you guys clean and reinstall or just replaced? Clean gently with brake cleaner or some carb and choke cleaner. Don’t use a lot just enough to clean the wires on the sensor, let dry. If the MAF is actually causing it there will be part of a bug/leaf/etc... that you will be able to see stuck on the wires. Doesn’t hurt to clean it anyways. It’s just an easy thing to check/do. I’ve had 2 towed in in the last 6 months that had part of a bug stuck in the MAF. When it does run, does it run smooth or spit and sputter? Might have to hook up a fuel gauge on it.

Points, cap and rotor days. Don't forget the knob on the dash for the choke! Pull out the choke part way, turn ignition switch on, then push down on the starter on the floor board with your foot.
